Short note on garbage collection

When I was working on the weather effects I ran into this bug where particles would not recycle correctly. In trying to fix it I discussed this at length with FeraliDragon. He told me some things I did not know but really matter. Take this code for instance (ripped from the Chaos Mansion): ForEach Z...

Re: The Chaos Mapping Contest VOTE thread (participants only

Bang on nog. There should be no discussion in the voting thread. The minute you start giving reasons it opens the door to people lobbying for their particular position. That belongs in the individual map threads, not here. This sort of contest is inherently very unfair. You can't truly judge Terra's...

Re: Nuclear Races

I don't know man....that's not such a good idea. I got permission to work on it but posting the mod if it's not your work isn't something that should be undertaken lightly. It will really upset some devs if they get their names tied with an incomplete or broken project that they just haven't finishe...

(U227) Coop server back up

I finished reinstalling my Unreal coop server and it's back up if anyone wants to play some old school Unreal goodness. It's running a ton of custom content but I use a high-speed redirect service. Nothing gets you into the Christmas spirit like kicking snow titan ass across the plains of NaPali! Ho...

Re: Nuclear Races

I have all the files somewhere around here. It worked, I even ran a server for it for testing. The main problem was the degree of difficulty in making proper maps. The base mod (IIRC) worked pretty well.

Re: DM-CMC-DarkKeepOfChaos

You know with certain mappers you will always get certain things. For example with Cardi you get beautiful visuals, a good backstory and the map is coherent. Terraniux always has crystals and his maps give a fun MH experience with attention paid to environmental detail. With Mem I always know he nai...

Re: DM-CMC-Letitia [Chaos Mapping Contest '17]

I'm not trying to sound like "that guy" but contest entries need to be locked in their submission forms. If everyone just keeps updating then in effect the contest deadline is being extended. That's not fair (no offense MMU). Further updates should not be allowed until the maps are judged.

Re: CTF-CMC-Kullrena (WIP)

Visually this map is stunning. I had to open it in ed to see how the rain-swept floors were done, they are incredible. If it weren't for the hud grins is right, you'd easily think this is 2K4. I'm amazed you got this level of detail in this small of a space without it being laggy. This is really, re...

Re: Snow and Rain, fully working

Yes, this code will work in Unreal but I'm going to make a specific version for 227. The improved emitter classes allow me to make more realistic effects. The snow will look better. I plan on giving the falling flakes the slightest trail so visually they look more like they are falling than just dro...

Re: Snow and Rain, fully working

This would work but you'd need to give the actor a spawn coordinate. You could maybe use this code and trace upwards to find the "roof" and spawn it where desired. It wouldn't be hard to side trace once it found a spot and then let it self-configure given the amount of "sky" it h...

Re: DM-CMC-Constantine (contest '17)

I liked the open feel of it. After playesting the others it was nice to have a change of pace and room to run around a bit. I like that there are specific areas like the library. If I had any criticism it would be that you should have scattered some book on the ground and made the bookcase on it's s...

Re: CTF-CMC-HellScape

I'm a fan of good CTF layout and I like what you did here. The common area between the bases is usually pretty much "the enemy is in front of you" but your twist on this forces the players to watch their sides as much as their front. A good sniper will rule this entire map for as long as h...

Re: ChaosUT Mapping Contest (CMC) '17

Memsys, your map needs a release thread (or did I miss it?). I'd like to post feedback/discussion on it.

EDIT: I was able to open the DOM map without any issues. Not sure what's going on.

Re: DM-CMC-Letitia [Chaos Mapping Contest '17]

OK played this and I'm a fan. Good color scheme, nice atmosphere, the map flows well from area to area. Placements are spread out and there's plenty of opportunity to engage z-axis. The only problem was the constant water sound made me need to pee (but then again I'm 50 so that's almost always there...
