Re: Can the file mismatch being handled?

You shouldn't give the server the ability to decide legitimacy and alter the client like this at all. At the very least you'll have dumbass mappers replacing Ancient.utx with their "improved" versions and causing you to fail ACE checks, and at the very worst you give rogue servers the abil...

Re: New mappers class?

Well. It's a long procedure. None of us born to be a ripped faka, oras a calculus master. <questionable images snipped> WTF is that even supposed to mean? I honestly can't decide if you are retarded or just "in your own way weird" like the rest of us. I miss the days when we actually disc...

New mappers class?

Instead of these new mappers getting their ass paddled by the veterans it might be nice if one of the elder statesmen here would take some time to help out and offer some guidance. Perhaps make a map that has some not so obvious errors and teach these newer guys what to watch out for. This run of ha...

Re: DM-RooftopBattle

i delete it and never upload it here again Good. You won't waste any more of our time. Mapping ain't for you brother. Judging by your reaction neither is interpersonal interaction. I don't hold that against you though. I'd guess you are about 12 and that means you grew up glued to an IPhone screen ...

Re: Solutions for a security issue

Nah, you did nothing wrong. This is very much like the aimbot/wallhack argument. I personally think it's best if every server admin tries a few bots out (privately of course) so they know what they are dealing with when trying to look for that activity on their servers. If hijacking or the ilk is a ...

Re: Connection problem with one selected server

The ability to selectively block certain people exists. You didn't cause problems or anything did you? If not then email the admin, you likely got caught in a banning by mistake.

Re: Solutions for a security issue

I was talking with someone yesterday who wanted to use these exploits against a specific server through a single map spreaded between many servers and this person is well known, also known not to be a bad person lol. That person should be named. There's no room in this community for shit like that ...

Re: Solutions for a security issue

I've been watching these discussions with a great deal of interest. Gugi did this stuff in UT2004 years back but I don't think he published a lot of the things he had found (for obvious reasons). I do know he was able to use the client connection as a tunnel and poke around in their system outside o...

Re: Monitoring suicide

I think I've settled on number two. It lays down a checkpoint every fifteen seconds but deletes it when you use it. This way if you die within 15 seconds of spawning it will take you back to the playerstart. Checkpoints will not spawn in any sort of damage zone, if you are not in contact with the gr...

Re: Monitoring suicide

completely automatic, requiring no input from the player Commands are the downfall of a checkpoint system. If the admin wants it implemented it should be silent and just 'work'. I have Bob's version of SamSpawn on my Unreal server and I love it. You don't do anything, it just silently monitors you ...

Re: Monitoring suicide

Those are good in many situations but I need a pretty foolproof way of clearing any points if the player wants to reset themselves. I've already accounted for being overwhelmed: you can only use a checkpoint once. You must live long enough to spawn another one or you reset to the start. That fixes m...

Monitoring suicide

This week I've been working on a checkpoint system especially for MH servers that is completely automatic, requiring no input from the player. It's almost done but I'm stuck on how to clear a checkpoint if they get placed in certain bad situations. For instance if you survive a fall into a deep well...

Re: [ACE] Inqueries & Catches

Elsewhere in that thread it discusses the Linux client incorrectly decompressing. That's my guess for the problem here. Still you can't let people play with unmatched files. The client will need to replace those files locally. AFAIK Linux doesn't use any different files than the so. I've had multipl...

Re: gaming has became trash

But now, they apply cheap tricks even for what's supposed to be official game. It's just hollow. The old stuff had soul in it. I wonder how much of that is because almost everything that comes out you've seen before. It may be done better by the newer engine/game/company but it's nothing you aren't...

Re: A whip?

That could almost be done just with a mesh replacement. Range would be very similar to the pan. How do the hands look in first person?
