Seeking a .umx

Post by EvilGrins »

I'd like to get a music file I can use on a map for Weird Al's Dare to be Stupid.

Kinda need Dare to be Stupid.

I've got a Weird Science one... but it's not quite right for what I've got in mind.

You want that file into .umx?

I'll convert it for you this week.

If you upgrade your audio renderers you can have full quality stereo MP3 or OGG in the UMX.
Listening to music in 8bit 11kHz is horrible

That'd be ideal. Map I wanna edit it onto has a lot of BIG BOOMS going on.

It'd be nice to be able to at least partially hear the music over all that.

I did.

Might've been better a smidge louder, or I could be going tone deaf from playing a map multiple times back to back with so many NW3 nukes on it, but I could hear it okay between large explosions.

I usually play UT with game volume at about 50% and music volume closer to 75% to 80% or so.

Yeah that's the problem with converting something into something else.... either lose quality and have small size or max quality and big ass file size...

Yes but the problem is that originally the tracker musics were done with multiple samples, sequenced one after another. Not a single big-ass sample with the entire music. This only adds to the filesize. Want to add an OGG? Use the renderer Flay suggested. Otherwise go partition the music in patterns :)

You have to be able to implement your ideas or provide some useful skill. Never join a project whose idea man or leader has no obvious development skills. Never join a project that only has a web designer. You have your own ideas. Focus on them carefully and in small chunks and you will be able to develop cool projects."

Don't forget that the Galaxy defaults are to use half of everything as a precaution.
You should change the settings to use the full 32 channels and 44k quality.

The new OpenAL audio renderer allows 64 channels, so even one of Grins games should not drop many sounds.
Once you have OpenAL loaded in UEd, you can simply import almost any audio file as if it was a tracker mod (show all files), then save as a UMX.
No extra conversions or software needed. Job done in 10 seconds.
