MH maps recommendations?

Do you search a certain mutator, mod, skin, map, everything else?

MH maps recommendations?

Post by papercoffee »

So ... finally I got into playing MH offline and I was shocked that I have only a few maps and only two are playable with a bot team. I like it when maps aren't that humongous.
Land of Napali was ok but tooo much walking when you die. And you die a lot because of the Titans. You wish after the first 10 death for the translocator. Just because the way is so fricking long.

Nearly perfect for me was Easter in Wonderland. Great visuals, tough fights and the chance to get faster into a fighting region.

Gauntlet as MH conversion was too small and meh ... 30% of the time you shoot from your start spot at approaching enemies. :|

First try cube maps ...are .......not my cup of coffee. :ironic2:

So do you have any recommendations for me what you consider to be a great MH map and hopefully fit to my game-style?
Yes I can download bazillion of MH maps and test them ...but I like to read reviews or look at pictures.
I don't know a place where I can do this. Mapraider has only a handful and one is the old version of Skaarj Tower. Medor doesn't have screenshots in his database. :noidea Same for UT-files.
And I thought: "why not ask the pros first".

Here's the way I sorted them - just my opinion of course -
some of these are amazingly good, some less so but still worthwhile
The bad ones (or unplayable for some reason) are not in these lists

Hope this helps!!

Papercoffee, ever thought about using !CP? Check points that is...

The one that you mark a location to spawn at in the map. I got one here that you can use if you like, if you don't wanna do a long walking. Doesn't make the bot spawn there or anything else but you... some maps doesn't have spawn location to set up when you advance some area.

As you know, I've got a tonnage of variants of a particular map you could try, that bots handle like a dream... but given you're probably not willing to use any of those...

Try these:
· http://unreal-games.livejournal.com/99452.html
· http://unreal-games.livejournal.com/85632.html

I also recommend this · http://unreal-games.livejournal.com/86952.html · as despite appearances and "his" name being listed in the preamble, "he" didn't make the map.

That one was made by Cyberia-Mix before I edited it.

Try MH-WhitePalace+ when you don't want to go long ways.
Also MH-Glacialis_Beta3 is a very nice and well made map.
Don't know how bots behave in these maps.
I use a mutator like Chamberly (BTCheckPoints: http://ut-files.com/index.php?dir=CTF/B ... Points.zip),
with that you can save your position in a map and you have a chance in large difficult maps also alone.

If you weren't so opposed to LARGE maps, I'd recommend the edit I'm currently working on...

That map looks familiar to a recent release from 2015.

It's a conversion to UT from Serious Sam, MH-GardenOfDeath.

I had Nelsona path it earlier this year and I've been doing monster swaps to it. Almost ready.

Would've been ready today but an old friend swung by last night.

When it's ready I'll include the one with normal monsters along with my edit; Nelsona pathed both.

Thanks for all your suggestions ...I'll try them out.

For the checkpoint mutator ...interesting. I'll test those two as well.

@EvilGrins, it's not that I don't like large maps... It's more like, I don't like large maps without updating spawn-points or toooo much walking between those locations even so there are updated spawn points.
Lands of Napali had those updating spawns but they were to far apart and you had to walk nearly 2 or 3 minutes until you reached this one Titan who's killing you right after you had arrived. And again collecting weapons and run to that place shoot a little then smash and again walking ...
Even dodge jumping felt slow on this map. Instead of fun did this map felt like chores.

Lazy boy. Lazy!
papercoffee wrote:I don't like large maps without updating spawn-points or toooo much walking between those locations
How do you expect your player form to grow big and strong to win Liandri's Tournament with that attitude?

1. That's why bots are great, on well pathed maps. If it gets to be me too much, I can go outside for a walk or get groceries knowing my guys are still at it.
2. I'll see if I can get you some better recommends later, when I'm home.

In the meantime...

That's THUNDERBOLT's fantasy map, bit of a memory cruncher but while expansive you won't be bored.

Terraniux's last MH map I know of · http://unreal-games.livejournal.com/102487.html

Lot going on there, you'll be busy. Bots aren't great on it, thing has pathing but they don't follow it much at all.

Played these, they're great!

How do you expect your player form to grow big and strong to win Liandri's Tournament with that attitude?
I've won it so many times Xan is my bitch now.

I'm sure you'll be very happy together.

You wanted screenshots of maps, right?

I went a bit busy last time by curiosity about some map called MH-Mixed (so many fixes). I have dropped in action Higor's Devs for doing paths over BT zones - at unlocking weaponry areas. 5 Bots unlocked weapons (even dying are retrying) and game was nice. Big issue is MH's default broken waypoint count system, if by chance a bot will fly from a higher location to a lower one with a waypoint, all action goes down - MBot is a collector. By recompiling an XC_MonsterHunt child (similar to original MH but that cannot break that easy) I see Bots/MBots finishing map and being helpful against monsters. Heh, such stuff will always lose points because of default MH which people are loving and constantly using. Map is enough loaded so it doesn't worth protecting actors based on MH503 goofing Bot Support, else it would be priceless... In MH2 works like a charm as well... I would recommend it for playing "at home" with a fixed MH.

I'm using MH504 right now and I can't activate the transloc ...but till now MH504 works. Would MH2 be better for offline play?

I was always interested to do Devs compatible for both cases ON-Line/OFF-Line. XC Sample Server in cause (it doesn't heart-beat-ing) which I dropped contains as well MH-Templar which is a good map from multiple points of view - I don't see it listed by FragnBrag. Aside some of those "good" ones are not that great at tech chapter... no need names... just saying.
