Map identification

Post by EvilGrins »

GlobalUnreal's forums are gone, and the site itself has very little going on. Some of it's worth checking out...

...some, not so much:
http://www.globalunreal.com/leagues/HEY.swf

A thread on VulpineMissions' forums led me to something interesting.

That'd be this · http://www.globalunreal.com/Maps_I/

It's a directory of screenshots, each of a different map... but there's no names listed for them.

Can anybody identify these maps so I can try and track them down?

Eeewww, I can assure you 99% of those maps don't even have items or paths on them.
Don't waste your time.

I missed that, but there's a bunch of links on what's left of their site... they've got a detailed stats page too, from tons of games on their server.

I prefer screenshots that're darker too, not too bright or too dark. Darker gives a bit more depth & detail.

There's actually screenshots in "Screenshots for Fun" on this forum that're the same as those. Probably a mutual member.

GU was 1 of about 3 UT forums I'm a member of that rapidly produce new maps for certain gametypes, most of which from GU had no pathing whatsoever... but they're really good maps.

One of the reasons I intend to eventually join http://www.ownedwell.com/forums/ is because that's where the mappers from GU moved to.

Also, I'm trying to learn pathing... so good practice material.

Mappers there probably making maps only for online game environment for GU/OwnedWell.

But hey, there is mappers everywhere else too. Like here if you haven't seen it. http://utmappers.proboards.com/forum So yeah mostly MH mappers there but there is some other.

So yeah, I don't play there @ GU/OW so I won't be able to identify most of their maps. Maybe TimTim might show where to point when he hosted a mapping contest @ GU.

I know it bends you when you see this but remember the time when some of this stuff was made Nels. Even the guys who made the game were learning as they went. Mistakes were obviously made all over but so much of this was new and cutting edge back then. They were blazing new ground so it's to be expected when you find problems in the old stuff.

I single time I was using Editor to do the job for me and I'll regret that moment until last day, as an addiction I'm expecting a decision to get back at fixing stuff, but for some unknown reason almost nobody does this (with a few exceptions). This seems a Level modified (I don't know what was modified) and other EthernalCave which looks similar to original except a small hole to some sort of sky, game-play being unchanged I don't see a reason to send another file to player for the same match... :noidea . In those modified the single problem is that wasting-of-time in checking if worth attention (because we have non stock from 2000 year Levels pretty perfect for that time). These older have titles changed and nothing improved. The rest of news seems interesting but empty - really 0 stuff.

EG shall we proceed ? Some separate debates for each of them ?

I've no debates to present for either, but if we were to go that route... might wanna start a new thread elsewhere.

This section's just for finding downloads, after all.

Some advice here EG? If it were me I'd zip it all up, send it to Nels and then wait. Whatever he does will be right, I can guarantee that. I wouldn't even bother with trying to help or decide things. He's really that good.
