Yes, I should have added more detail - apologies.
I'm running UnrealEd 2.0 and UT on an iMac in a Wineskin (2.6.0, Engine WS9Wine1.7.28) wrapper and so have to start UnrealEd from the Wine Command Prompt (as Wineskin is configured to run the UT.exe), changing directories to get to UT/system and open UnrealEd.
The crash occurs when trying to start the Editor - the splash screen comes up, followed by the GPF.
I do have the UnrealEditor v2.1 Standalone version installed as well (in a higher directory than UT/system) and that runs fine from the Wine Command Prompt. So I do have an editor - it's just annoying that the other one doesn't work. May be I don't need to worry about it?
