WTF is causing that?!?

Post by EvilGrins »

Hermskii's forum is nice in that it can be viewed by non-members, though you gotta join to comment. It isn't like DU where you gotta be a member to see content, anybody can view posts on Herm's forum.

So, any opinions on the video here · http://hermskii.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=3823 · that I may forward to there?

Seen bots do some strange stuff in my time... but never THAT.

That's just a BlockMonsters shit as it seems.

Same happens to the Decorations like Steelbox when they are blocking paths.

Easy, use HTML5 or a different player like VLC or Media Player Classic -BE, which both recognise Youtube links.
Use Greasemonkey, Tampermonkey or Violentmonkey to install user scripts to take over.

Wait... what?
And then you can see videos even on youtube itself? Without a flash-plugin?

With Firefox it seems that the HTML5 player is normally used when one views YouTube videos - certainly the video player in EG's post is the HTML5 player.

In the latest version of VLC, after copying the url of the video, go to File > Open Network, paste the url and click on Open, watch the video and get lost in the tune.

My pleasure to help as always.
I am constantly looking for ways to improve or fix sites I use, so I have a big list of installed scripts.

BTW. Userscripts are a handy way to stop abusing RAM with Chromeium browsers. If you can find a script instead of an extension, it helps a lot.
As they are scripts, you can also inspect them if you want to make sure they do not to bad things.

Media Player Classic - BE is much more convenient to play Youtube than VLC. It is also smaller and uses less CPU.
For Windows XP users it also uses HW decoding, where VLC cannot.

If you have MPC-BE open, it watches the clipboard for links it recognises, so when you use the "Open File/URL" (CTRL+O), it should already be there, so you just click "OK" and it starts playing.

VLC is very flexible (especially with more LUA scripts), but bulky and clunky to use. It also has the single most annoying zoom control ever made.

For any Userscripts that load VLC, you can also use Media Player Classic - HC which can stream from more streaming sites.
With MPC-HC you do have to tell it which HW decoding to use before it uses it.

For those of you that want to watch Twitch streams without the browser hog, there are lots of ways to change it.
