behindview players when playing demo file

Post by esnesi »

Hello all!

i got this nagging issue which i would like to ask you guys.

Whenever i recorded a demo, and play it (in UT)
I would like to behindview 0 some participating players.

But whenever i try to do that (type in behindview 0) my screen goes flipping mad (like iam moving my mouse really fast constantly)
I've tried this with other mates, either they get the same, or the command just doesnt react on it.

Those other mates we're playing on OpenGL, and me on D3D9.

I hope somebody can elaborate!
very curious if its even technically possible.

There are two kinds of demos. The first is client-side and the other is server side. The difference comes down to 'relevancy' (doesn't it always?).

As a player you are aware of everything that is relevant to you. Across the map though is a firefight and it's completely out of your visual realm. Because of this it isn't relevant to you and you aren't made aware of the actual fight. The server will tell you the winner and things that matter like that but the actual action isn't told to you completely because it's just not needed. If you take a client demo then it will only render things that are currently relevant to you. You can see this by disengaging from the client you are demoing and flying across the map or ghosting into an adjacent area. Pretty quickly you'll see nothing happening. Where did everything go? It's just not relevant to you.

Server side demos however retain relevancy on everything because it's the server. You can move about the map, select a player to demo, see every shot and bit of action. These are the way to go.

TL/DR: Client side demos are very limited in scope and use.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

Had a similar chat about something similar on UnrealAdmin awhile ago.

Are you sure it's behindview 0 you wanna be using?

My keybinds:

behindview 1 is the correct one, behindview 0 makes you go back to standard viewing.

Once you're in the correct viewing mode, all you gotta do is hit F5 to switch your view to whoever it is you wanna be seeing.

Thanks for the reactions!

Indeed behindview 1!
I keep getting a weird reaction though when i switch to the player. (flipping)

I googled some more and found DemoRecRemote;

This does solve the issue for me though.
Why the standard fails.. should be 'a entry' somewhere..
