...and hello to you too s4tanherself
Welcome to our community.
Some background info would be useful, rather than how long you have been trying.

Q: Trying what ?
Do you have a problem loading the game, playing the game, finding servers, connecting to servers, or installing mods ?

Good questions get useful answers.
Some of your needs may be met with this collection of threads

Please avoid double posts in future. Unlike most sites we allow users to re-edit all previous posts.
You may double post after 24 hours if you want to bump a thread.

You can get help, but only if you actually tell us what you need help with. You know, without us having to dig out and dust off your crystal balls. We're not into guessing games when it comes to helping people. If you tell exactly wehat you are trying to do and how it fails, we can point out what else to try that we know usually works.

2 posts salvaged from the RSS feed, because this thread has been screwed-up and is now confusing.
s4tanherself wrote: Thank you. I have a Windows computer. Windows 10 home 1511 desktop. I downloaded from http://[removed].org/. I'm not sure what 'nVidia, ATI or intel graphics' are. The game loads but won't connect to any servers. It starts loading then all the writing on the screen goes away and it just sits there. I believe I need the 436 patch but I'm not sure how to do it. I've clicked on your link, http://hooksutplace.freeforums.org/1-wh ... t2167.html, got there I looked under official windows. I don't know which to click. I have no idea what I'm doing or really what questions to ask to get what I'm needing. Can you help with any of that information? Or is there more you'd need to know? As I said, I'm clueless and would greatly appreciate any advice on getting the game started.

For some reason a change of mind happened in the 2 hours here.
s4tanherself wrote: I deleted my other info from this..cant delete the actual post. I give up. I thought I'd actually get some help on one of these.

Wormbo posted at this point, 20 mins afterwards.
I posted again at 8:17 am without seeing the last post.
Now when I come back, both previous posts are gone (but not forgotten).
I told you we allow users a special level of trust here, please do not abuse it.

------EDIT-----

s4tanherself's PM was more enlightening

OK. Well first off, your illegal download is only half of a complete GOTY edition (same as the Steam GOTY edition)
GOG have the full 2 CD release with the extra mods, maps and textures
https://www.gog.com/game/unreal_tournament_goty

That aside for now, you have the 436 version, so do not need the NODELTA patch.
The only other patch is v451b which breaks the editor, so many people stay with 436.

To find servers you need to manually update your main config file to add new "MasterServers" and remove the dead ones.
http://wiki.333networks.com/index.php/C ... Tournament
There are several MasterServers around the world, and you should use at least 3, so you never loose the list.
OldUnreal Forum has compatible Masters marked as (Multi)
http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl

UT99 is an old 32bit game, so can often have problems on new systems.
You will need to update your graphics renderers to match your newer GFX, or the game will run slow and not look good.
Video and audio renderers are still being regularly updated, to make better use of new hardware.
Install the most recent full renderer pack "experimental beta OMP0.99b-UT436-UT451", and then update with the 2 downloads under it.
http://www.oldunreal.com/utpatches.html
You will then have to change to the renderers that suit your hardware.
As you have a desktop, so it is safe to ignore intel GFX.
nVidia works best with "OpenGLRenderDevice" and ATI and intel work best with DirectX "D3D9RenderDevice"
Instructions on how to configure the modern renderers can always be found at the top of this site "Tweak Your UT Graphics To The Maximum!"
https://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=373

Windows 10 needs some updates and changes.
IMPORTANT - Windows updates
Since Windows Vista, a fresh Windows does not have the complete DirectX support.
It is common for games and some software software to update DirectX during a full install so you may have installed some of it already.
To fully support DirectX 7, 8 and 9 you will need to use the "DirectX End-User Runtime", to install the missing files.
DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) http://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=8109 (95.6 MB)

Since Vista, newer Windows security can block UT99 and UEd2 from functioning properly, especially if you install into the regular "Program Files" folder.
You should install UT to another location eg. "D:/UnrealTournament" and exclude the game and editor from "Data Execution Prevention (DEP)"

Were this person actually the Devil (herself, himself, itself, whatever-self) this thread would be pointless. The Devil could get around any glitches. :satan:

I'm less about pirate'd downloads of UT as, so far as I know, it's damned near impossible to find it in stores anymore for a regular purchase. Last time I looked is when I got the Unreal Anthology collection, which has Unreal 1 & 2 on it, as well as ut99 and ut2004, and that was a few years ago.

Just sayin...

:noidea 2 CD version, no DRM, no extras, no problem.
https://www.gog.com/game/unreal_tournament_goty
Same as Steam, you only ever have to buy it once, and can download it whenever you need.

I am aware that many people seem to think that due to age, Ut99 and Unreal are abandonware. That is not the case.
The problem with posting pirate links here is that Shade will get nasty letters from Epic, not the person that posted.
Nice way to thank him for all he has given us :?

Here, we try to set an example, and go out of our way to give legal alternatives (eg. patching the demo).
My OTT collection of info regarding what makes a full GOTY edition, can be used to fill in the blanks from a raw demo, or pirated 1 CD version.

I was wondering when that link will be removed, and perhaps other useless links as well, else with these "smarts" someday I'll see hacks and torrents posted in multiple sections through forum. Aside, g00gling around you might find some stuff without posting links. The question comes about stuff posted for "free download" and being copyrighted and how they could manage to not see consequences.

I saw the link when it was posted, and was going to remove it after I prepared my post, but the whole post was gone when I came back.

Don't worry about seeing this site degenerate into a den of pirates.
I am the only Cornishman here, and so the only one that talks like a real pirate.

Cornish pirates?! I thought there were only hens and pastries there. ;)

Anyhow, this thread began with one of the most courageous first non-posts I have seen in my short time here.

Common mistakes
Not a "pastry" but a "pasty". It was invented as portable food for tin-miners, with a crust/handle you could throw away or die of tin-poisoning
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasty
There is an old Cornish saying "Anywhere in the world you find a mine, you will also find a Cornishman"
Notably it also follows that anywhere near big mining areas around the world, you find pastys.
The first food my brother bought when he went to South Africa was a Pasty. He said he kept finding Cornish names everywhere. Very strange, but then I do keep finding Cornish names as places all over the planet.

The Cornish hen as the world knows it is actually American.
I can only find confusing histories on the subject, but we don't have them here (same as Chicken Kiev is not from Kiev, and Scotch eggs are not from Scotland).
http://www.foodreference.com/html/f-cor ... -1116.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornish_chicken
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornish_game_hen

No, our contributions to the world are far more important, and far more overlooked.

We have a land made of granite and developed the skills to mine it for tin and gold, so Cornish miners are still our most important export.
We invented metallurgy because tin is not much use on its own, and so we brought the world into the Bronze age (later the ancient Greeks visited "the fabulous tin-isles"). The ancient peoples of many countries visited here to learn the secrets of making harder metal.
We invented methods of saving lives at sea and underground, that centuries later are still used all over the world.
We radically changed the steam age and made the first portable engine (depending on how you look at it, also the fist powered transport).

...and yes we have a long history of smuggling and pirates due to the craggy coastline, and being the closest stretch of water the Spanish or French ships would hit.
For a while 3 pirate kings had the coast divided between them, and even kept our waters clear of the English navy.
Aaaaaarrrrrr good ole days I tells ya, swashing buckles and blistering barnacles.

Common mistake: "cornish" is something resembling corn in some manner, as in: "Your skin tastes cornish." or "This wallpaper is cornish."

Wiki that.
