There's no need for a theme and whatnot, and 50 constraints around what you can map or not, especially in the face of this 20th anniversary of the game, a game known for having given the ability to everyone to be free to create whatever they want in the first place, so this time let everyone do whatever they want to do in their maps.

Just place a reasonable deadline before the 30th of November, and done.

As for the contest side of it, if you really want to have a contest at all, have the whole community vote for the maps this one time, and maybe have the contest itself to only consist of maps created from scratch from now (to avoid the same kind of drama as last year), while the final 20th anniversary pack (which we could call the "20th Anniversary Map Pack" [or "20AMP" for short, for map prefixes]), could have all the contest maps, plus any other maps anyone would like to contribute for the final pack that they started way before the contest started.

The contest could very well start officially this Saturday, and end on November 25th, to give around a week so everyone could vote, and the final pack could be built to be released on the 30th.
Agree with all of that - certainly the best way to go.

Thank you Ferali.

The 20th Anniversary Mapping Contest - 20AC
Start on the 22.September.2019
End on the 22.November.2019

Any theme, Any game-type, it must be playable with bots and must be build from scratch.
All exotic packages must be included into the final zip-file or MyLevel'ed into the map.
A badge will be created which must be included and placed somewhere visible in the map.

If you want to participate write the staff member.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The Bonus Maps which get included into the final Mappack should be finished until the 28.November.2019

We want to deliver a huge mappack with a lot of quality maps... therefore, for all contestants and bonus-mapper give your very best.
Show everyone out there how much fun you had and still have with this old game.

An official Thread will be posted the next days.

Well I have to ask... Can we submit multiple maps?

And ---

How about SP campaign? (these could contain several maps).
Would sp be considerd UT? would obviously have to use oldSkool...

just some thoughts... SP could bring more skilled mappers into a pack

I would say as long as it can work even with default UT weapons is everything ok.
But as I said:
Any theme, Any game-type, it must be playable with bots and must be build from scratch.
This time the community will vote the winner.

The maps should be CTF, with good bot pathing.

Can never get enough of those.

Themes.... hmm... not many underwater maps, or underwater settings... there's a few around.
I'm thinking about doing a small sp/co-op based on the city of Rapture, and so am replaying bioshocks 1 & 2 and the infinite dlc burial at sea.
Drinking in a lot of "Rapture juice" and also trying to figure out how ut99 could fit into the bioshock world.
I would have to create a lot of new textures, prefabs, and meshes, which is not really a problem for me, heh, however ue1 will fall down on
things like water effects, there's no real specular or shaders. No way to really do plasmids, flying turret drones, vending machines, big daddies, etc.
Even without all that it will still be a lot of work, and I know this because Tom_caT112 (with help from me) explored the theme a bit in an experimental
map for the OMC contest at UP in 2009 - which did feel a bit like rapture. Used chico, wot, and some custom textures...

These pix show an early attempt at a bioshock theme in ut99

Still pondering ... :noidea

Interesting style. Not sure the textures blend in as well, but that can always be changed.

On a far less positive note, I'm pretty sure I won't get anything done by time. I'm having a few layout ideas and a few things scribbled on my noteblock, nothing particularly satisfying, or worth doing though.
Even worse, I currently am in extreme pain when sitting down even if only for a few minutes so I am not able to do any serious mapping. It's being treated, but it takes time.

Good luck to everyone, though. I still like to see a few nice entries.

ya, this map is not my map, actually it's one of Nicks (Tom_caT112). I only helped him a bit by making the terrain, walkways and the other "sealed" glass bits.

I might have shown him how to make semisolid deco prefabs and such, but other than that it was all him (well ten years ago, lol!) the guys a UEngine udk/3/4 pro now.

When I look at this now I can see how I could create some nice architecture and other pieces, etc., but as it is there's a ton of polys/nodes in this one little demo map.

The overall ratio is around 3:1 which _if_ fully detailed for a convincing bioshock theme using bsp would likely be far worse. There's also a lot of curvey stuff in bioshock.

Also, as Swanky points out, something pretty close to the "real" bioshock art-deco-styled textures would be required - otherwise it starts looking like a bazilllion other

WOT/chico maps, except maybe more colored lighting... geez I think just talked myself out of this :P

@Swanky - hope you do change your mind and find some time - even a hot little 1-on-1 would be great!?

Cheers
