That tends to happen at the end of the contest, because the maps are, at least, partially judged by the members of this forum.
Skellethorn wrote:I mean, are we all adults here or should we think about what the kids may see?
That's a bit of a leap, depending on how you define "adult". There are younger members on this forum, at least 1 semi-active who isn't even a teenager yet.
Skellethorn wrote:Also, how many maps can we submit per user?
I would assume (not up to me) it's only 1 map. Think this came up in a previous contest...
Skellethorn wrote:Custom content and all that?
Some would be expected, I assume. You are trying to win, after all.

How much "artistic" freedom do we have? I mean, are we all adults here or should we think about what the kids may see? Also, how many maps can we submit per user? That wasn't so clear to me.
Also, I know the contest is not over but I see a few people have already submitted maps, could we update the first post with links to those maps even if they are beta or something? I don't want to be looking for them in each thread page.
Those are the rules. Should we add more?
Maybe we should add the rule that you don't have to dry your hamster in a microwave.
You can upload as many maps as you like till the contest end.
What do you mean by "artistic" freedom? Do you want to participate with a Porn map?
Kids don't play a game which is old and bloody ...they play games which are new and bloody.

TyrsLair got an update. It should be in the final state now.

Download: http://en.file-upload.net/download-1204 ... r.zip.html

Changes:
  • New bot pathing structure
  • Made some changes to the lift
  • Divided the map into zones
  • Added coronas
  • Fixed a bug that caused a BSP hole on top of the tower
  • Converted the second badge to a semi solid brush too
  • Added a missing light
  • Added some items to the center area to have a reason to go there
  • Changed the lighting in the center area a bit for more contrast
  • Added theme based music
I can't judge if the lift issue is gone now. I have read some tutorials about this, tested bots. It looks okay, but i think they have generally a problem with multiple exits. It doesn't matter for me. I will change it (if necessary) when i have more insight in this area.

Thanks for the feedback to everyone who has tested.

What are we doing here folks?

What exactly is the purpose of a contest if we test, provide feedback, allow fixes and subsequent re-submissions?

I understand that we have some new mappers in the mix - maybe all new mappers, I'm not sure - but how does this change anything? Even if all of the maps are submitted horribly broken, a winner will still be decided based on the merits of one mapper's skills and/or ideas. What I'm saying is that all of this corrective assistance is making the notion of a contest meaningless.

There will be time for these maps to be fixed up and made better when this is all over, but for now, let the mapper's do their thing and let's see what comes out at the end. A winner will be chosen regardless of the state of the maps.

Tyr, this isn't directed at you in any way. What you are doing is something that I cannot and you have my full respect if for even producing a black box. I hope you see my bigger point here, one that is directed at the community as a whole, not any individual.

@ carbon: I understand your point. No worries. I have no problem with that if the previous version is used for the contest.

Thanks for your understanding. I have played around on your map and it's great! Loads of fun and a worthy addition to the UT lineage. I don't doubt that it would have been a blast even before it was tweaked, and that's my point.

Strut your stuff to the best of your ability and we can worry about ironing out the details later. :tu:

It's a sign of our innate humanity that we're willing to help our fellow mappers...

...even as we plot to crush them and destroy them utterly to get some UT swag!

You got a map up your sleeve...?

I'm with you Grins, for sure, and I don't want to sound like I am anything but supportive, but the help will be just as instructive and useful after this thing wraps up. :tu:

I always have ideas for maps, just not the ability to make them.

I may sound noob but I was wondering how we are supposed to use that batch file into MyLevel, since texture we download is into a UTX package, should we export it out of the package and then re-import it into MyLevel? I tried it but the background is green :/

Certain colors act as transparencies in UT, and I believe that green is supposed to too.

If not, I tend to edit these things outside of UT and then covert them back to .pcx after the fact.
EvilGrins wrote:How I would do this
· Convert the logo and texture you want to put it on to .png & True Color.
· Using transparency, place the logo over the texture.
· Convert the now logo'd texture to .pcx & 256 colors.
What do you wanna put it on?

Oh oki ty, I thought it was against the rules to create a new entirely different package :D

UT requires at least 18 Years old for ON-Line gaming (due to mature language and content) in case if anyone forgot this detail... so we have to quit spamming things kiddie related because are not legal  . We Respect RULES (Rules, Respect Man !) so we all here are Adults, Riiight ?
