Definitely not the page I was expecting to view.

Post by PrinceOfFunky »

Ok so, I was looking for info about ASEtoT3D converter, and so I was on this page, since I couldn't find a way to apply more than one texture to the brush when converting, I was looking for the word "texture", after some time I found this line which says: "Vito Miliano for help with understanding Unreals arcane texture co-ordinate system and conversion from OpenGL co-ordinates. to Unreal texture axes.".
Fact is, since "Vito Milano" is a link, I was expecting to view a page about him or at least his contact, but looks like his website is not up anymore, on that domain instead there's now a porn site.
So, do you maybe know who can fix it?

It's not really fixable. What probably happened is the guy's site went away and it fell into a re-direct to porn.

UnrealTexture is a very old site, most of the links there either goto sites long neglected or... well, like what you found.

If you're determined, you could run searches with "Unreal" and the guy's name to see if anything comes up.

This is the best I could find:
https://docs.unrealengine.com/udk/Two/U ... uring.html
https://docs.unrealengine.com/udk/Two/T ... tions.html

I assume you were actually asking about who can fix ASEtoT3D, not who can fix the URL to my personal site. But, here I am.

The missing context is probably that I was an Unreal engine licensee in the UT99 days, and later ran UDN in the UE2 days. Daniel Patton, also mentioned on that page, worked primarily with CAD models, bringing them into the engine, and later wrote the UE2 CAD-to-Unreal docs (UE2 can import ASE files directly): https://api.unrealengine.com/udk/Two/CADtoUnreal.html

So, at the time, we had additional documentation and information unavailable to most people. In 2001, the ASEtoT3D author asked for some help, and I was able to provide some code that explained the problem they were having, hence the credit.

While I can't help fix the converter, I can make sure you have links that work, at least.

Daniel Patton's site was the primary host for the converter, with documentation and examples, and the Internet Archive's last capture of it is here: https://web.archive.org/web/20070505185 ... erter.html (the "mirror" download link should also work)

SoloSnake's site also has a live copy of it, and it appears to be the same version 1.0.2: http://www.solosnake.com/main/app/asetot3d.htm

They mention that they've yet to add "multiple sub texture support", and perhaps that was never added, or perhaps just never officially released. You could check the version of the tool on SourceForge, or its source code, also still live: https://sourceforge.net/projects/asetot3d/

If it doesn't support it, of course, you'd need a programmer to help you with that, if you aren't one.

Hope those help, good luck.

Thanks! I'm actually putting ut99 apart for now since I'm working on some not-for-fun projects.
I don't get why people don't use it instead of making the whole map from within Unreal Editor which makes it tedius and time-consuming. But well, maybe it's cause these softwares stayed in beta.
