Don't install the MarkC mouse accelerator fix on Windows 10

Post by PrinceOfFunky »

Some of you may already know of the "optimized" version of UT99 all in a zip file which includes the MarkC folder which contains registry files to set the mouse acceleration look and feel like the old Windows systems (like 98, 2000 and XP).
These days I had to reinstall Windows 10 from scratch because I installed the "Windows 2000 HIGH" "fix" registry, looks like it touches the wrong registry location or just changes it in a wrong way.
If you don't do a backup (export) of your registry before to install these fixes you may get a BSOD everytime you move the cursor.

>>That's the BSOD I got<<:

Also, this is another person who got that problem and which wasn't able to know the cause after a week:
Hope that person is one of you so that you can read the cause .o.

Wasnt this obsolete when default acceleration in windows was already off ?
(Default on since winXP)

Offcourse, it is still a good tip for the WIN10 users ;)
Not every user might get the BSOD, cause of hardware dependencies.

direct input = emulates acceleration off if on.
raw input = would emulate exact raw input in every proces including keyboards.
AFAIK

XC Engine devs are busy with an true raw input;

If anyone wants to try raw input you can use a thing which is being used by top insta/sniper players in UT99 pug community.
This tip came from a well-known German div1 ClanBase Insta player - noobX.

It's highly recommended for UT1. It's called RInprut. RInput allows you to override low definition windows mouse input with high definition mouse input (raw input, which is more accurate for high cpi mice).
The latest version of RInput is 1.44 for now. Go to download it here:

The page of the project - https://fearless-assassins.com/files/file/1656-rinput/
Direct link - https://fearless-assassins.com/files/fi ... 498655b088

How to use:
1) Run your UT and minimize it
2) Start RInput.exe with Admin rights
3) Provide the name of the UT process (Usually it's called 'UnrealTournament.exe . WARNING: Case Sensitive). To check this open the task manager when UT is being minimized and check how the process of the game is named.
4) Press Enter
5) Open the minimized game
6) Try it

P.S. to use this you need to uninstall MarkC from your PC
Also if you don't know who is noobX you can check the following UTStats from his games. His nickname was 'ClarkGriswold'

Hope you will notice the difference after trying.
