or just grab the "theGhandiPack" and then you have all of ghandi's original official umod files and zipfiles :D
Thanks for the info. Do you have a URL to the GhandiPack? I tried a search, but it only brought up the Mahatma Ghandi Pact.

I wasn't aware there was an actual compiled file for those particular vehicles. You should post it here as an attachment if you have it.

TehGhandiPack

Long ago I compiled "TheGhandiPack" to preserve his "original" packaging and distros - these items were sourced from his original zencoder site (planet unreal) via ftp, iirc.
and (to me) this represents "Clean" Ghandi ut99.

Regardless of what you think/thought of the guy as a creator (some of his stuff is great, some, well, not so great) he, along with EzKeel and a few others were my very early influences.

You might already have all or much of this stuff, but might also help you complete your collections...

Cheers

I have that map, it's truly twisted.

Been meaning to edit it for awhile.

Long before I ever found any Unreal/UT forums, I used to bounce emails back and forth with ZenCoder.

I think that there is not. The special Ghandi jet as I described apparently only exists in ArcticJets3a.unr. I have obtained further information to this effect.

Britton Wesley = zencoder = ghandi
FraGnBraG, WOW this takes me back many years.
I didn't know you had a connection to Britton also.
Britton and I were pretty close friends back in the early first years of UT99.
He was one of the first members of my UT forum.
We used to chat a lot - even correspond about our personal lives.
I was sort of his mentor.
I have some pictures of him still somewhere I think of him and his girlfriend who he married too.
Maybe I can dig them up?
I wonder how he is doing now - he was a very nice person!

Anyway I gotta toot my horn a bit here LOL...
When britton wesley = zencoder = ghandi was first into UT he saw some of my early maps and asked me how I added creatures and other things imbeded in my maps.
I actually tutored him and got him started into mapping and adding things into his maps.
Yep, you can blame me for giving him his start in UT LOL.
He was already a software programmer/developer/coder and was employed as such and eventually he developed all his jets and things and we figured out getting them into his maps too.
The rest is history.

OK my horn is done rooting - carry on...

However, I understood problem. Here is a failure of an object from a package/asset. It is referenced but it doesn't exist, in this case I think if you are browsing sounds "imported", Editor is crashing because... they are nowhere but referenced - sometimes it's the same problem with textures - a recent AMC map was doing this and I had to re-import those textures.
This can be solved by creating separate sounds in Wav format and re-imported in Level where you work. If are still not referenced properly in Level you can add some AmbientSound far away and set them there - or in a mover which is not moving, you can store more than one sound in a Mover. MyLevel should call them properly after that (warning at names and GROUP used) or game will still crash. By any matter, if you are using a package already compiled, Do NOT try to recompile it in this Mylevel from Editor, you don't need this and then, your referenced objects might be gone because Editor...
This is interesting but I do not understand why a sound or texture would be missing. The ArcticJets3a works fine so it must have the necessary modules. When I load the ArcticJets3a into the editor, those same modules should be present. That is why this bug is such a mystery. Is it possible that I have another module that is already loaded that is somehow conflicting with the sound module needed for the jets.

I cannot reproduce your problem. I loaded the map CTF-ArcticJets3a in UnrealEd, created a new and blank map, added a GhandiJetLauncher, saved the map and had no problems running it.

(Although the sound 'car' is the sound of a starting car engine, it is played in function GhandiJetLauncher.Fire() )

Thank you for the link. I downloaded your map with the bubbly textured room and I tested the jet. It functioned exactly as expected. I then thought that I should load your map first to get the jet. So I loaded your map into unreal editor 2.0. I then saw that the the ghandijet launcher was there under tournament weapons. So I placed it on a copy of rime isle. When it started it crashed just like before.

What it means is the problem is not the arcticjet3a and it is not a particular map where I am placing it. The only thing I can think of is it must be the unreal editor itself. Is it possible that I have a bum copy? I have noticed some strange problems when I edit maps. I have UnrealEd.exe (v. 2.0 --1348 KB).

Would you be willing to send me a copy of your executable?

Thanks again.

Just extract the Editor from your install disk.
But I would rather try to replace the ini first.

Unlikely.

Try one of the checksums first (calculate them for example with 7Zip):

Code: Select all

Name: UnrealEd.exe
Size: 1380352 Bytes (1348 KiB)
CRC32: 3006E878
CRC64: 8313C5290EC249F2
SHA256: 9284E9441C88E539E6C7A5567C4EB160F4AFD7BA41419380EE4126CEF49DC988
SHA1: 008F271C6A23BCF35A8BEDC9916B4CD8ABCB6460
BLAKE2sp: 2660A7CD2778F3B2AD14D4080F3C5F5FF1C8FEB2D4E85326E8E93EE7E439C5FB
I could investigate the crash further if I had a copy of your map.

I took your map and deleted the jet. I then loaded arcticjets3a and placed the jet in your map. Attached is the result.

You didn't say anything to the checksums?

DM-TestGhandiJetLauncher2.unr crashes UnrealEd.exe as well as Unrealtournament.exe, so the map is useless.

Have you tried PC's suggestion moving UnrealEd.ini away and start with a fresh one? Maybe try this:

I attached the map because I was asked to. That is what happens when I place a ghandijet on the map. If I delete the jet before exiting the editor, it is ok, but if I leave the jet on the map when I exit the editor, I lose the map altogether, because I can't even load the map back into the editor.

Thanks for the ini code. I tried it, but to no avail.

As for the checksums, I don't know how.

I have pretty much given up hope. Apparently everyone in the world can have their arctic ghandi jet launchers except me.
I will not experience the joy of bearing down on the enemy, unleashing a multinuke apocalypse upon them, the like of which they have never known.
'Tis a sad day indeed.
