I'd put a banner up top that scrolled showing whose birthday was today, with animated fireworks exploding across the portal page.

A place to put news every week. With references being added via link or whatever. Like XC_Engine is getting IPv6 implemented. Not sure if v469 but it may be as well. The clan matches, what where when and who won? etc.

It's like a little weekly news column.
