Re: UT99 General Protection Fault
Or maybe your UT99 copy was messed up from the beginning as these errors never occurred for me.

Re: UT99 General Protection Fault
Have you reloaded the game? Save your current user.ini b4 you do. After reload, replace the new one (in your System directory) with the current.

Re: UT99 General Protection Fault
um I'm not sure how to put this but I'm no programmer or Editor but I love to play UT99. I know a little bit on how to install mods and things but all I really know is copy and paste.
I use a cache extractor so I can save maps that get downloaded from servers so I don't have to re download every time. The only thing I'm confused about is all the extra .u files that don't get loaded into the System folder. They just stack up in my UnrealTournament folder. Should I go ahead and move them into the System folder? When I exit the game I always get error messages that say things like General Protection Error or Cant find 'ini:Engine.Engine.Game Engine in Configuration file etc. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and move those .u files that get downloaded and extracted into the UnrealTournament directory into the System folder and maybe that will stop some of the errors. What do you guys think?
the last part of my log looks like this:

Not sure what it all means but I'm wondering if it has something to do with those .u files not being in the System folder like the rest of all the .u files are with other packages like voice packs and mods etc...
So0o is there anyone who can shed some light on this subject matter? I'm willing to learn and read what ever it is necessary to figure it out... any help would be much appreciated from anyone.
Thanks

Re: UT99 General Protection Fault
Next time please put such a long log text into a code tag. my mouse is burning after scrolling such a distance.
And yes all the .u files belong into the system folder ..same goes for the .ini and the .int files

A pity because older versions were fine. Unfortunately the source is not available, you'll have to take this one up directly with the author. Check the readme files

Re: UT99 General Protection Fault
Have you considered getting a priest and having an exorcism done?

You know its funny EvilGrins, you talk about having an exorcism done.... LMAO you are not the first person to have said that. There have been numerous people come over, one of them was a supposed psychic, say that an exorcism should be done in this house. It sounds funny but I'm not joking when I say this but every single thing in this house that has a circuit board in it with an electrical signal in it acts screwy from time to time... Especially if it has a network connection to it. *goose bumps* lol
So yeah I will put all the .u files in the System folder from now on... However there are no .ini or .int files that get stored in the cache area or when I use the extractor to save them...
Thanks for the tips

Re: UT99 General Protection Fault
Cache ripping is a messy way to get the mods ...because .ini and .int are not stored in your cache.
You should download the mods properly. Otherwise it mostly won't work at all.
Write the name of the mods you want to use and we are maybe possible to link you to the creator directly.
Or simply google the .u files. You should be getting some sources where you can get the mod.

Re: UT99 General Protection Fault
Hehe. An exorcism is needed due to the splendid resurrection of this thread
First I recommend a better cache extractor, that cleans up properly. You should not need to manually delete or move anything.
No you will not get any of the config files from a cache, or any of the files that make the GUIs or mutators work.
Cache ripping leads to chaos in your UT folder (not the good ChaosUT), as you have no control or knowledge of what versions you are installing.
Cache ripping should only be used to fill in the gaps etc.
Almost every mod you want can still be found as a distro.
With the distro it will hopefully contain any important notes, such as "this will crash if you do x,y,z", and "to avoid it crashing you must z,y,x and install a,b,c.".
Until you install the mods properly you will not see mutators, game-types or mod-menu items, so have limited offline ability.
