Creating your own video tutorials?

Post by smeerkat »

Hi everyone, I'd like to create video tutorials about Unrealed 2.0 and upload them to YouTube.

What screen-capture software do you recommend? Prefer something free, if possible.

What I want to do next: Joining an UDK team (uncertain however) and improve 3D modelling and texture editing skills

This is a little bit offtopic, but you asked for it: Let's put it this way ... compare the views of a video tutorial of an super old and dropped piece of software like the UEd with views of tutorials for Photoshop, Maya, Max, Blender, UDK, cryengine sdk, 'other software which gets updated regularly'. Apart from some special super insider tricks, I am not sure if it is worth the effort, considering a game community has always fewer modders than pure gamers and UT has not that much gamers left anymore. I dont think the UEd is really hard to learn, at least compared with some 3D modelling software the learning curve is nearly a piece of cake. I think most modders of 'my generation' learned this kind of stuff - if at all - by reading classic 'text' tutorials with some few pictures.

I think it's a nice idea, depending on how the video tutorials are set out. Regardless if Ued is old or not, we still have people coming here asking the most basic of questions.
If someone is willing to spend the time to construct such tutorials, then i'm all for that. A good structure to the tutorials, would make a very good guide for new people
and give them a better idea, seeing it in action.

There is nothing better than sitting watching a full on tutorial (bot pathing say) and it suddenly clicks ' arhh, thats how it's done'
It's the same reason why people still make map-packs or texture packs...trying to give something back to the UT community we all enjoy:)

Hope you have fun doing it smeerkat!
