Problems with Steam's UT GOTY?
So, I have been here for quite a while, and throughout that time I have had a lot of people saying the steam version of UT GOTY was a piece of crap.
I wonder why people say that though, I for one use the steam version and I have been quite happy with it, usually when I install it on any PC it just works right away,
unlike when I do it from the disk version which I also still own.
Is the only complaint the fact it tries to load Steam when you start it? Because that one is so easy to fix it's just silly to even mention it!
If you own the UT GOTY disked version or the Anthology disk you can simply copy the executable from the CD and overwrite the old one and everything should work.
They truly changed nothing from what I see other than the .exe file.
If you do have the steam version but not the disked version I uploaded it on my dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/s/ft8zf321dgqhq ... utable.zip
Note: This folder contains only the executable, it will merely remove it's reliability on steam if you own that version, it is not a full game.
If it still goes against the rules for some reason, please remove the entire thread.
To "Patch out" the steam stuff, simply go to Steam/Steamapps/Common/Unreal tournament/System and overwrite your unrealtournament.exe with this one. Don't forget to backup yours first!

Re: Problems with Steam's UT GOTHY?
billybill wrote:The steam's exe is different? can you post it as well. Often people say to patch their exe with core fixes, but on OS's like 64bit windows 7 if you check the affinity of UT it's already running at one core. I don't think this is true for older OS's
/rant. can you post up the steam exe so I can check command line options are all the same. And I would assume the steam version is windows only and not Linux or Mac. That is one thing that really made this game, imagine people on ps4 and xbox one all playing a game together without having to decide which one their group of friends were going to purchase

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jl4t8oddmtryd2x/SteamExe.zip is the Steam version link, it's bigger in filesize than the original too. Other than that, any and all content packages seem to be the same though.

Re: Problems with Steam's UT GOTHY?
This is a very useful post as more and more people use steam.
A clear idea of the difference would be useful.
For example did they use 436 or 451 for a code-base ?
Can't you just use the standard NODELTA patch, to turn it back into a normal copy ?

It seems to be 436 if I look at the logs.
It runs badly if you down update the opengl dll.
It looks crap on new computer with high reselution, dont think the high res texture is included. Should I download them or is that a bad idea?

Re: Problems with Steam's UT GOTHY?
Try using the NoDelta patch. Point it at the UT folder (not the UT system folder)
http://liandri.beyondunreal.com/Unreal_ ... al_Windows
To use the Hi-Res textures will require updating to newer renderers.

Re: Problems with Steam's UT GOTHY?
So to play UT instagib on internet I should NOT use Steam version? To bad, its rather nice to have it in my steam library.
I can use UT GOTY Edition from CDs to play online.
Say I want to play some UT instagib on internet.
I have a rather new comuter with i5 and 7900 ATI
1. Install UT GOTY from CD1
2. Install Renders, OpenGL.
3. Follow settings from http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=373
What about textures
In this post it say NOT to use it:
http://hooksutplace.freeforums.org/ut-s ... -t845.html
In this post/sites it seems ok to use it:
http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=373
http://www.uttexture.com/UT/UT.htm
Something Im missing?

Re: Problems with Steam's UT GOTHY?
I'd feel sacked if I bought UT99 via steam, since the boxed version of UT99 never ever operated using activation keys and could be easily installed on as many computers as you wish to.medor wrote:The best idea would be to not use steam
But yeah, each to their own I guess.
Re: Problems with Steam's UT GOTHY?
Am I the only one bothered by "GOTHY" when it's "GOTY" ? /grammar nazi
I don't see the added value of the Steam version over the disc version.
To me one of the greatest things about UT is that you can copy the game folder to any computer and it just works! The steam version takes that away.
I already own the disc so why would I pay for the restricted Steam version? If I would ever lose my copy of the game and wanted buy another copy I would get it from GOG.com because it is DRM free.
If you want the game in your Steam library just add it as a non steam game.

billybill wrote:both threads http://hooksutplace.freeforums.org/ut-s ... -t845.html & http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=373 are heavily outdated
Nowadays all high resolution textures are fixed to run with cd1 texture server (something that happened 2011?)
*Meaning: After installing HR textures you will only have trouble with servers that use cd2 or the early UTRP "fixed" server textures. You should be fine nowadays on servers the server-only (net) textures or cd1 textures
You will want to keep a second UT with only the cd1 textures for mapping and server hosting
Medor and others have the HR textures compressed which will save you the trouble of downloading each of them individually:
http://www.google.com/search?q=UTRP.Ext ... tures1.cab
http://www.google.com/search?q=UTRP.Ext ... tures2.cab
A note though there is a bug with one of the cd2 textures pointed out here http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=373#p3619. If you use cd2 textures you will want cd1 texture or fixed texture.
The only exception would be the XbpFX package, which does contain an error, which is the reason i left it out of the master files. But can be downloaded at your own risk at this link: XbpFX Non Group
