[HELP] UT2004 Textures

Post by ASLY »

How I can import UT2004 textures too UT99 without resizing the textures?
But first it's possible? I think yes, just because there is some mesh what made Creavion and he used UT2004 textures.

Just export the textures from UT2004 and import them into UT99. As long as they are in a compatible format (ie: BMP or PCX), they work. IIRC, UT99 won't go over 1024*1024 textures, so a few UT2004 might need to be downsized if they are 2048*2048 or above. Other than that, "you can import them by importing them" describes the situation pretty well.
You must construct additional pylons.

It's exporting in Direct Draw Surface (*.dds) file format. Not compatible with UT.

Tried with InfranView and gimp, but these programs do not have .dds support. Can someone recommend a little app that can open these files? except PhotoShop, it is way too expensive ;p

I don't know if Paint.Net can handle dds files.

Yes it can. A plug-in was needed a few years ago, but I think it's now integrated in the soft.

Irfanview opens DDS files fine (ooo! recent update. must grab)
Did you visit the plugin page ?

Personally I don't know what you are messing around for.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...
My favourite tool for making texture packs for U1, is UEd3.

You can copy and paste around the texture window to your hearts content.

I do it old fashioned, much as i described here · http://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?p=39767#p39767

From what i've seen even standard ut99 does occasionally allow for textures that're larger than 256x256 but those are usually for like background elements, like the Earth or other planets you sometimes see in the game's sky. Resizing ut2004 textures isn't a bad way to go, provided you can maintain the level of detail on them.

Yes, UT can use textures the same size that you find in UT2004, as long as you use one of the replacement renderers.

If you are in UEd3 to extract the textures, you are already sat in front of the perfect tool for the job.
My UEd3 looks an awful lot like UEd2, as I suspect everyone else's does.

If you know how to do it in UEd2, you also know how to do it in UEd3.

UEd3 allows you to copy and paste textures from one bank to another, or to another texture pack.
You have absolutely no need at any point to actually extract and re-import.
Do the whole operation within UEd.

BTW. xNview will also open and save DDS files (that is what Creavion uses).
