Using the latest Old Unreal Multimedia Update, I got it to work flawlessly under generic software... IN STEREO. I haven't been able to get it to operate correctly with surround. Using the ALCAPS viewer I can see that my OpenAL32.dll version number is 6.14.357.25 and wrap_oal.dll is 2.2.0.7. Strangely I don't see a 64 bit library listed. OpenAL Devices shows Generic Software in underneath it.

After having numerous issues with OpenAL in this game on my particular system (which is strange, because I've seen run relatively bug-free on other rigs), I've rolled back to using Galaxy. It wasn't a completely painful process however as Creative EAX patches exist for the game and EAX believe it or not can be installed on and utilized on any system regardless of soundcard thanks to two things happening: EAX getting depreciated by Creative in favor of OpenAL and the PC gaming community cracking Alchemy to work regardless of your hardware and Creative seemingly not caring to do anything about (probably to avoid having Daniel_K flashbacks). With all of that said, I would recommend OpenAL support if you can get it working bug free (something I couldn't do because it would only playback stereo when I have a surround). In the event that OpenAL gives you issues however, I recommend that you fall back to Galaxy and install 436 Creative as well as the 3 other EAX files (eaxutsys.exe, uteaxctf.exe, uteaxdm.exe) that go with it and of course Alchemy (for which, refer to the guide below). Technically OpenAL is supposed to give you twice as many sound channels as Galaxy, however I really didn't notice much of a difference after getting EAX to work, in fact I'd say UT99 sounds more of what I think it's supposed to with Galaxy + EAX than it does with OpenAL in a lot of situations.

Enable EAX on your system, from what I heard this is not needed if you are running the game under WINE (WINE has built-in EAX emulation)
