Why no monsters?

From MonsterSpawn to MonsterMadness, to a mutator I got recently called AlienMode, some maps don't allow for monsters to be spawned in them by any means other than summons.

Why is that and how does one set it up?

Probably some map settings that disable monsters from spawning.

Check to see if the maps have any pathing. No pathing, no monsters.
If it does, you may need to re-build the paths, as broken pathing can also stop the zombies and monsters from spawning.

select all pathnodes,
Order to last or first (does not matter),
Rebuild paths and save.
