Lots of Unreal Tournament beta and pre-release info

Post by Teflon »

I've spent the last few months documenting the changes in the Unreal Tournament beta, an very early beta consisting of resources made in December 1998, and two versions of the demo. My documentation has nearly everything, from graphics to nearly every change in the maps. I've even shown the differences in how the default bots look!

I have also documented a lot old pre-release images, including two videos showing an early Unreal Tournament!

Betas:

Pre-release information:

There's a lot on the main beta page, so here's some of the really neat stuff in the beta:

Enjoy!

:gj:

I've messed arround with the beta botpack myself, some very different items to be found as seen on your site :tu:

I'm not sure if you violate the EULA by making the unreleased botpack available for download? But I doubt Epic would mind it at all

Fascinating read. I had already visited the Cutting Room Floor for several games, but I never thought of searching for stuff about Unreal.
You must construct additional pylons.

If you are into the old stuff I have all kinds of it in bits and chunks scattered about here.
So long, and thanks for all the fish

Sure! I'd love to take a look at it.

I didn't want to bump the thread but i just discovered some footage of UT99 not mentioned in tcrf.

Go to about 2:40 in the video. It shows a very early version of ut99 (probably around Dec 1998/ Jan 1999). U can see the old(er) rotating U logo and the early version of the UBrowser's Botmatch Menu. HUD style and weapons are same as that of unreal 1. The pulse gun is there but its primary fire shots a very different looking projectile.

"There is a statue of a Nali from Unreal on the altars on both sides of the base. The final game removes these statues, but keeps the altars."
I don't think they are altars, they could be tombs: https://www.ut99.org/viewtopic.php?t=12247
Talking about the real-life towers:

Also from this pic, you can see a tiny blue thing in the reedemer place:

It can be seen in the final screenshot, since the screenshot represents the same map version of that pic:

What is it supposed to be?
