what is it that makes UT99 so unique? I've played UT2003 and UT2k4 or whatever the heck they're calling it. I don't like them at all. The maps are small and generic, the physics is boring, the dialogue and story are pointless, the sound effects are hollow, the gamemodes are gimmicky and awful. UT99 is leagues ahead of these games and I can't really understand how a much older game that clearly was an enormous success got so off-course.

Same thing happened to Sim City. Great game, every sequel has been leagues behind its predecessor.

When I first picked up UT2003 and they had replaced the Sniper rifle with "a lightning gun"... hrmm... I DID actually like the orbital satellite laser weapon thingy except it only worked in certain maps...

I remember back in the days when UT99 was at its peak people were asking for vehicles, more complicated weapons systems, and that's what they delivered with the new games... except... the game didn't FEEL like UT anymore...

Oh well. Sorry if my rant seems a bit irrelevant now. I'm sure ppl have been posting this same post for decades, but, oh well.

UT2004, what they also call that one, didn't have small maps. If anything, they were huge...

I get a different experience from each. That is why I keep buying them.

yes dr flay unreal was first and then came unreal level nyleve.
From nyleve ut 99 was born, and ofcourse made by epic also.
It forfilled two needs the single player (unreal 1), and the (multiplayer ut99)
I think unreal 1 and ut 99 are bounded together imo.
Its all old and it keeps good .
The reations you must have in unreal and ut99 is awsume becous the game is more then 15 years old.
We are all running faster machines (computers) then that era when unreal 1 and ut 99 comes out.
When ut 99 came out you must did have a fast computer otherwise the computer juyst simply canot run this game.
You must also have back in that time a faster videocard tnt 2 or 3dfx cards.
Otherwise you simply canot run that game.
And now all the hardware specs are super duper , causing the games runs faster wich is very logical (mr spock says).
If you see now how much games are made they look very good graphical be honest.
Especialy the newer games who cames out this year.
They are all graphical enhanched and looks very very good.
But the prblem is you move slow the textures are very big causing lagg into the game.
Whit those new games you also must have the latest and fastest videocard otherwise you canot run them.
Back in thos days ut 99 was the same.
But the only differents between those games is if you compare them (the new games ) with ut 99, ut99 stil wins for me.
Its the only hardware specs those newer vidcards what we all have just render ut 99 with ease (becous it is an old game)
The x windows graphical style wich ut 99 has is very good.Its the simple layout of that game wich i very pleased with.
I just wanna say i will compare ut 99 with newer games and ut 99 and unreal 1 still wins from it all.

The way unreal 1 and ut 99 handles is awsum, this and the graphical user interfase its just so simple made, even a kid from 2 years old can play the game just so simple made that annyone from 2 years old or 120 years old can play the game.
I,ve tested ut 99 on windows 10 also,it runs just fine on it.

And unreal 1 and ut99 was back in those days so much more in his time ahead that only the newer machines runs on it and the very expensive videcards.

the accessibility of ut 99 is awsum first few days you must get well how the movement goes after a vew days you are ready t straffe in the game and after a few years of playing you can play olmost on every server of ut 99.
We all have to practise with this game to keeping the skill on a high level.
And how more you practise you more learn also from other players howto play this game.
keep the comunity alive for epic sake.
This was a litle story how i think about unreal 1 and ut 99 comparing to other (new) games.
And also for epic they are 20 years busy with games and they keep going.
Also with the new unrealed 4.0, the sky is the limit.
You can create what you want edit what you want make new games what you like,and it all started 15 years ago when the unreal engine was created by epic games.
20 years later they desided to start a new game (ut 4 ) together with the comunity, and we are all waithing now till this games will comes out.
The alpha version is olmost ready within a few years we will have a new ut4 with new caracters and maby older caracters also added in the game.
When everything is textured the game will look awsum and very good.
Shal this new game also handles the look and feel of ut 99.
That will be a question for all ut freaks out there on all forums and gamers.
But one thing is for sure ut 99 is was and ever will be till the end of time the best game epic games ever made for me.
These are the reasons whi i play ut 99 all day and sometimes all day long or at least ones a day.

It's been nagging at me too, are you aware of the symbolism of the inverted pentagram? Shadow's avatar has a similar theme (though his is a variation on the below). They're curious choices.

This isn't a religious thread, but yes... I'm familiar with it. To be exceedingly brief, the symbolism that Christianity placed on it has a very negative connotation that wasn't the one that was there when it originally came into being and was used by a different religion. It got perverted to bad things by people that were trying to put a negative spin on the original religion that used it...

...although FXANBSS with the animated thing that's got it in there isn't drawing from either of those but a complete conversion for UT called EXU2: Batshit Insane.

Or something like that.
