What makes Unreal Tournament 99 so great?

Unreal ED!! My first ever creative utility! Right before I got into music making. I'm still not as good as others at Level creation though. I only just learned to do specific things. My bot pathing is really good though. Oh the nostalgia..

That one taunt describes everything about UT99 that I love: the attitude, the aesthetic, the combat, the flow of each map, customization.

Because in an age of an insane number of 1st-person shooters, back when UT first came out it was light years ahead of all the rest. Best Bot A.I. being one my particular favorite aspects...

...from what I see from the official forums, the A.I. for the UT4 bots still kinda sucks.

Yes, I agree with that
When I first tried UT online I was fooled by some of the bots - I thought they were real players LOL

For me, the game was so easy to play, and you could stop playing and start playing later without all the baggage!
It seemed like you were really there to,- with the great control, nice view, etc..

btw. because I see the fat-mutator in this screenshot ...is there a modmutator where you can beef up the player model ...I mean just a little bit not as ridiculous as in that mutator.

I don't know, but it would take me two seconds to create a custom fatness mutator.

There's a whole range of fat mutators, though finding them can be tricky:
1) Basic, makes every player, bot, monster fat.
2) Points, makes all players (etc.) fat or thin depending on their point ratio.
3) MoreGore, players get increasingly fatter if they don't kill someone else... until they explode.

...and so on, and so forth.

Sounds interesting ...something what makes everyone 10% or 20% beefier.

Yeah, I know this gametype related fatness... but I mean something where you can make everyone fatter with a fix value.
Say, for example you want the monsters and player in MH to look slightly stronger... you start this mutator and everyone looks like they got some anabolic drugs. even the Titans.

I want to know what makes Unreal Tournament 99 so great, why we keep coming back to it after so many years.
We all know it is different from the newer games and I have seen people say Unreal Tournament 4 is like a brother to the UT3 rather than UT99. I have not been able to play any of the newer games so I don't know first hand myself although I have seen a couple of videos from UT 2K3/2K4, UT3 and UT4 I can't say I know the differences.
So what is it? How can we make UT4 into a real successor of UT99? Is it really that good or just the nostalgia?

Because the new games are not that fast.
It is fast because it was made in 1999 wich computer specs are much lower then now.
Because its a very good game.
Because it runs on every machine wich stands in the study or living-room.
Because of the good music.
because the editor is not so complex.
because it brings nostalgia for olmost all players.
Because it takes this community alive.
because this game has a huge amount of players and community members.
Because this games is the best game they ever made thank you epic games.
All with this in mind i,m afraid that this game will never be beaten by another game.
And you think by yourself ''epic'' yes they made that..

Mainly because of all the creativity it allows with everything from map making to custom code.
All of that is of course amplified with the fact that there was and still is a great community with great people to play with, now multiply that with the many years that has passed, and given us this many times of joy and fellowship.
Maybe, just maybe one day all those big corporations that currently sits in war with each other about who can create the best looking game in the form of reality and graphics will start to realize that it's not the only approach.

Who else wish they could go 10 or so years back in time and re-experience all those great late Friday nights where you're finally back from work and just about to fire up that good ol' UT?

Come to think of it, there used to be a FatGun. You kept shooting people as they plumped up until they exploded.

That reminds me of the bubble gun in 2004. Shoot enough bubbles at people and their heads explode haha.
