Black box in scope

Post by [WJF]Forever_Winter »

Hi!
On some servers I get this black box in the middle when I scope with the sniper rifle.
These rifles are custom and played in the sniper/camper community.
Why do i get that?

You have to be more specific, as you say that those rifles are custom made, you have to ask the owner to check the problem out. :wink:

Ugh boy ! yea I've had this problem and others with that scope style. I was playing the
TUC sniperhunter and it was doing that and I think it was a combination of bad driver and something else that I'm still not sure about , that was cured with a reinstall of UT99 and another driver from at that time an ATI driver. I still have one gun that I get what looks like a "notch" missing from one side of the box scope view. With the TUC gun it was also picking up and showing some kind of map textures that messed up the view bad !

Good luck !

what u see is a overlay hudd that has a bad setting.
the black box is actually a transparent texture over the scope hud to make the effect of the zoom ....
the 4 dots wil go to the center when u zoom more .
this could happen when.....

ur grafic card or vga drivers are not good.
when the weapon has a bad script for the hud.(most likeley)
when ur directX is not good installed.
when the servers anti cheat program is not configgerd right.(happens on some utpure versions to)

when its on this server ongley i shouldent be worried there probl already working on it.
when u have this on every sniper server try a clean install or check ur video hard and software.

cheers.

Old post now so prob cured the problem, but one extra thing to check is in your Unreal tournament .ini check this section, theres more in the list but its the HighDetailActors=True is the important bit.

Code: Select all

[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice]
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=False
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True

its a simple and very popular problem with snipers

but easy to fix all you have to do is change your driver :agree1:

Changing your driver wont help if the other drivers settings are the same as the first ones.

Teabag's answer is correct...

For those of you who see a black square when you activate your scope:

You need to open your UnrealTournament.ini located in your UnrealTournament\System folder and find the settings for your renderer, like:
[D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] if you use Direct3D
[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice] if you use OpenGL
[D3D8Drv.D3D8RenderDevice] if you use Direct3D8

Here make sure that HighDetailActors=TRUE
Once that setting is set to "TRUE" save and close your .INI file and your reticle problem should be fixed.

The ZSZ forums has a thread extra for this problem in case anyone has any questions. Or just ask here and I'll see if I can find answers for them.

Edit: Damn the typos!
