Disclaimer: Map featured above is not included in this release; Created only to show what the textures look like when you apply them to your terrain.


I apologise in advance if this has been posted in the wrong forum section - I am assuming that "Skins" also accepts general texture packs! :D

SZ-TerraHD is a texture pack of 22 "Terrain" textures at 1024 resolution. Included also are several detail/macro textures.

All images are of my own creation, photo-sourced from my own sources, styling is influenced mainly by the terrain textures seen in the mod "Operation: Na Pali".

You are of course free to use these for any project you wish, be it Unreal-related or no.

Included in the zip file is the "SZ-TerraHD.utx" and also individual .png files of all the textures (barr the detail/macro).

Here are your textures in use right now. VERY AMAZING STUFF :D.

this is going to be my next DM map folks! Sniper / Redeemer!

You will be credited for the textures in the map with a big font! 8)



Edit: but also find a big issue using them, with the textures applied, I can not run, build, or rebuild lightning, not a single light actor can be used.
The editor keeps crashing. :omfg:
Is it me, or did forget to check an option?

To check if the specific textures are the problem, I'd export the map to T3D, close and reopen UnrealEd (because otherwise used textures will stay in memory) and import the map. All textures should be the default bubbles now. If the problem has gone, one of the used textures has caused it.
Otherwise: it has been reported that big scaled textures can also cause UnrealEd crashes.

Are you sure you have set back the view port to lightmap view?
just asking. Because on your preview screenshots is the no-lightmap button still active.

hm...... I simulated the problem and now it seems it is my map, the large scaled terrain.

When I place an torch on the big elevated rock, just default setting, hit rebuild all is fine. But when I change light from 64 radius to something high, like 250 and hit rebuild, I get the error.
But it is different than yesterday....

Just made an test map, a blank cube with another cube it in it, brush is 512x3 applied the textures...... all is fine....??? :???: wut?

SteadyZ maybe downscaling all textures to 512x2 utx package would be an option? Or is it my UT install that can not handle the 1024 textures? Please advice. I really like the textures.

I think you hit an engine limit.
What about zone lighting... and light-actors for the details?

Well, it isn't a small map, approx 20480 x 20480 x 10240 as my memory recalls..... :tongue:

Hey Terraniux, sorry to hear you're having problems with the textures :(

The engine doesn't really seem like it when lights with large radii cast onto very large surfaces - especially when hi-res textures are being used. (I know that Uberserker had similar problems when building his Xeops map). I can make a lower resolution version of the pack if you want, though the error may still happen. Try swapping all of the textures from my pack to a random other texture and see if it rebuilds then :wink:

Well, this would not only benefit me I think? But yes please, if you will, thank you! Maybe you can batch(roll) all textures to a 512x2 size using a program?

After more testing, it was my map that was the fault. I rebooted the project with a new unr, different style now. Also exported some of the textures and downsized them to 512x2.




All works fine now. I quess everyone have to find out for themselves how their UT installs handle the textures. Again big thanks for the textures. love them!

Perhaps if the HD textures were conformed into a non-compressed old scale pack, then non HD is available in the same pack by disabling S3TC support in the renderer config.
