n00b question, about weapons

Post by XxChoppaGunnerxX »

Ok guys gotta ask a question, I've been wanting to know if you could skin weapons, if there's a tool I really need it.

Oops, is there a way to skin weapons with UTSkinmaker?

Want an opinion?

To modify the current skins a little:
- Extract the skins and modify them as you desire in any image editor.

To make totally new skins for already existing weapon models:
- Extract the model with UTPT (for example), extract the UV map with LithUnwrap (or another UV editor) and build your skins from there.

To make totally new skins for you own or another custom new model:
- Organize the UV as you like, obeying the limits of 7 skin files (most people say it's 8, but the skin0 is reserved, special and causes a enourmous bug if you want dynamic textures in any part of the model, so in resume, don't use it and act if it didn't even exist), them make your skin in a image editor.

To aplly the skins in-game, just import them and aplly (in code or in Ued), which works the same for all the 3 cases.

But if you use skin makers, you will have your job done more quickly and less "trouble" regarding the actually "doing things out", but on the other hand, generally skin makers are too limited, and may cause some bad issues in your skins, and doing the whole process yourself should lead to more effective and less trouble relative potential bugs, besides that way you can always modify things as you please without depending in one program exclusivelly.

But do as you wish and that fits you best.

Just make sure IF you do this...

I think that's quite obvious: if you extract something to make a NEW file, you should ever override any existing ones. :)

You would think it is obvious...
Thing is - it HAS Happened a LOT (countless times) over the history of UT99! :|
I can not stress this Enough! Just a precaution here.

Yes, but when editing the original directly, I know that

I mean, if you create a new file from scratch, not naming it the same of another package it's the basis of any product development
