Unreal I Skins server install

Post by iloveut99 »

Hi,

Somebody knows how to install this skins in a server?

I've installed them but they doesn't seem to appear in player setup to players choose. (however it work if I put .u and .int file in system)

I've just added the ServerPackages=Unreal1Models to the server ini.

The models file:

Without directly looking at the downloadable file, as I'm at work and can't access it now, whether or not you have them loaded into serverpackages has no effect on whether or not you can choose them. So it means you may've put them in the wrong directories.

The .u and .int go into UnrealTournament/System
The .utx goes into UnrealTournament/Textures

Should work fine if those are in those directories, at least for selecting them.

It's also possible you could have too many models in your ut99. The system has a max total of 32 (very popular number for UT all around) models at any one time. If you try to add more they won't show up unless you're using one of the enhanced setup mutators or Xbots.

How many models do you currently have in your UT? Not just the ones you're actively using.

I only have 9 models (with the ones from this package results in 17).

In this case the mod only have a .u and .int file which I put in the system.

I can select them and play in the server but just if I put the .int and u. file directly in the system of the client too, besides the server.

My intention was that players just had to download the package from the server and then should be able to select the skins from player setup (without manually install the mod).

Oh, gotcha. Doesn't work that way. By listing them in serverpackages they're visible to other people who login to your server but unless the people that connect to your game have those models they can't use them.

All listing them in serverpackages does is make them visible to those people that login to your games. If they wanna play them they're gonna have to install them on their own games.

This is why you've probably joined someone else's game when you were wearing a special skin or model but in the game you turned into one of the default skins? It's because whatever you were using wasn't listed in that game's serverpackages.

That's weird for example in this server:
77.37.2.117:5999

When I'm in I can choose some skins which I don't have installed (in player setup). Maybe it's related with vahala avatar?

That's possible. I know very little about the vahala mutator (valhalla?) most I've heard makes it sound equally great and equally sucky.

Don't use it myself.

You need the compressed (uz) versions on the server.
Try using a "redirect" site to fetch the files (if the files are available on your choice of server).

Go here for info on how to do this.
http://news.ut-files.com/redirect/

Plenty of tools for compressing the files can be found. Check through the tools here.

Sorry but what compressed files have to do with this specific problem?

Will compressed files allow players to choice the skins even if they didn't installed them manually?

Sorry, I thought you were having "general" problems serving-up files from your server.
This is simply what the compressed files were designed for, and I was guessing somehow the big/normal files are not being sent to the clients.

I don't think you would need the "advanced model support" fix for this pack, as they are old models.
You may be missing certain files, as Medor points out, you should have all the bonus-packs installed.

If you get no joy there are other U1 models packs.
OldSkool Amp'd will install a few old files you may be lacking, and is an exellent way of getting U1 content to work in UT.
Original site with documentation and info on U1 models.
http://web.archive.org/web/201101051459 ... /main.html
YOU NEED THE FULL VERSION. not the lite version.

-NOTE-
some people have problems getting it to work properly. I am guessing they never read the full documentation.
I've never had a single problem with it, and it made my UT far more functional.
