If you want honesty, I'll give you that. Don't say I didn't warn you first though. You asked me.

I wondered how long until our conversations off the main boards would remain private. I will tell you though that without any exclusions you are welcome to post them in their entirety. I also have them saved so if you choose to post then do them in total, and not bits and parts. There's a reason for that and I'll get to it in a moment. I'd rather the whole conversation was read by all if you elect to share, so if you cross that bridge then we go all the way together. I'm not holding your hand though, cause that just looks unmanly.

Yes I certainly did come to you asking the how part of your server crashing expertise. Of course I'm going to do that, and you are by far not the only one. If you are willing to share stuff with me then that only strengthens my ability to stop it. You might consider me trolling you, I prefer to think it was social engineering. I never sought to embarrass you, and that's why the conversations remained private (well, until you decided to parade them around now). I have respect for your skillset but that doesn't mean I'm going to sit around and watch you do it if it happens on my friends servers. Of almost everyone here billy I realize the absolute danger you pose if you decide to become angry at someone. I have a feeling though that a couple of people are about to learn, and for that I'm truly saddened.

You have a gift for understanding the workings of servers, websites. Add to that you have a tenacious streak that will not let you give up on something. Putting those together marks you VERY high on my potential troublemaker list and you are someone I'd rather not have to sit opposite to. I'm pretty sure you could cause me some stomach upset before it was over with and honestly I'm not game any more. As you can see I'm only grudgingly tolerated at most all UT sites (here included) and taking on another enemy just doesn't appeal to me. My scorecard is pretty full ATM, if you like.

I'm sorry you felt like I was hostile to you. In truth I wanted you to key on me and not become interested (and then possibly angry) at Hook, Herm, or Mars. They can't deal with someone of your caliber and you could probably burn through their servers unchecked without breaking a sweat. Now though it appears that you have conflict with them (I guess) even after I warned them strongly not to debate you. I can only ask that maybe you consider taking a pass on them and we can go back to some good natured jabbing of each other over my files dump. I was enjoying exchanging with you quite a lot over it.

So what do you say? Forget about them and go back to calling me an idiot and I'll feign like my feelings are hurt. Everyone is entertained and we can all enjoy ourselves. OK, I'll beg you for this because my guess is I'll get kicked in the ass so hard out of this forum that I'll be tasting Ferali's shoe if badness ensues over this. I'd really like to stay here because I have full intentions of getting this DayZ mod rolling and the best mappers post in these threads.

Anyway...wall of text...blah blah...I wish i could post a porn palate cleanser pic but alas the damn Rules...How about just a manly high-five?
So long, and thanks for all the fish

I guess we think alike in that regard. It was obvious from your first message you were going to do this, which is why I said what I thought needed to be said. And I'd rather you put your rep on the line with the postings than me start a thread doing it which I've chosen not to. It's mostly about restoring this game for new people to get involved and the ones holding it back wise up or leave. All harmless and in the realm of fun and creativity, although no action was ever taken. I could probably add to it by saying the people involved have bought this game far less than the amount of financial loss they have caused others, while profitting themselves from advertising revenue. You would think after UT2k4's cd key stealing mutators they would etch on instead of the encrypted version they use in ut3. I still don't know why you dragged these other guys into it and don't know what you said to them but I can see it left a lasting impression. Good luck and I still will to check over them for edits now that I've seen the way you encourage people. I've actually had a long look at the freeforums.org terms and conditions and although it would be hard to legally take action on stolen work, I would still consider it borderline Harassment/Racism/Hate/Derogatory/Slanderous and that is only because of their terms, if it were his own site and not breaking rules I wouldn't get anywhere. So not a lot I can do but launch a complaint and see where it goes

I will say I would prefer to take the action than have you post all about it, it might sound more serious than it actually is. Plus I really want to travel to that country next year and try their servers. I guess those were my last words :(

Come on guys, are you really going to force me to lock this thread up?

So far the discussion was heating up but was still within the scope of this topic, now you both are just way off from it. If you want to say anything to eachother without any bindings to the forum rules, use the beautiful feature of a PM. Throw PMs at each other until you guys either shake hands or start a fire.
As for here, stay on topic please.

There's no need Ferali. I think we are at an...understanding (détente maybe?). At least I hope so. There will be nothing further from me on this.

I think things got off on the wrong foot with this!
What happened - it was just a file dump - a UT rummage sale but all was free.

Can billybill be friends again with us all?
I can certainly be - I wasn't an enemy to begin with.
It is up to billybill, if he is OK with starting this all over? ( On the right foot - no fighting?) :tu:
Let's move forward and leave the past in the past, and have FUN with UT as we all intended.

If someone uploads a corrupt file to ut-files then that's for you to deal with. It's not my responsibility any more to try to prevent it.
I'm not talking about ut-files, just pointing out that BIllybill is right in that the downloads he is saying are corrupt, are indeed corrput on YOUR site. Not ut-files. Then I pointed out that some of them, or at least the only one I searched for, was already on ut-files.com and it wasn't corrupt. Kind of saves the trouble of trying to find the original place to get it, but whatever.
JackGriffin wrote:I'll close with this: Don't bother reporting bad files. I'm washing my hands of this because it's burning my ass that no one has bothered to step up and say anything positive. I've seen multiple rips taken of this stuff but all I hear is bitching and moaning that it's not pristine, catalogued, filed by alpha, and has a screenshot included.

I'm done defending it so piss and complain all you want. It's staying up now as it is, and I'll probably add some bad/corrupt stuff in just to keep you guessing.
Ha. Now you see how I feel when people complain about there being no descriptions, images, etc... on the files hosted at ut-files.com. Pretty sure you've been one to make the comments as well. Go figure.

So it's my fault your site is so bare bones? Jesus, I get the blame for everything. Shame I wasn't alive when Kennedy was shot....or was I?

And yes I have made that comment openly. You want to align yourself as the go-to place for getting things but you don't want to put the work in making it user-friendly. All you do is add files that other people make and let namesearch do all the heavy lifting. Like I've said before your 'contribution' only exists because everyone else is doing the real work. However, it's turning into a nice cash cow for you. Sit back and let those donations come rolling in, cha-ching.

In Skillz defense, he may not have the files fully cataloged, however it is organized by kind of mod/mutator, and in case it has several versions of the same he generally groups by them all in one directory.
I already had to use ut-files once in my life, for a file I couldn't find anywhere else to public, and it was thanks to this organization I could find what I wanted with some ease. So unless you don't know what you're looking for, there's really no need for images, descriptions and whatnot imho.
Also hosting costs money, not so much the storage capacity, but mostly the actual available bandwidth and allowed traffic.

In another hand, in Jack's defense, his dump was never intended to be reliable at all, whereas ut-files is supposed to be reliable and something a bit more "official" afaik.

Anyway, both are useful, and it works like this: look first in ut-files for reliability, just in case what you're looking for isn't there, look in the dump, and if it's there, hope for it to be usable, and if it is, submit it to ut-files. Simple.

So as I see it, all this discussion is a bit nonsensical if you both actually look at things as they actually are, thus I would kindly ask you both to stop throwing turds at each other.

I'm not blaming you for anything. Why are you so mad? Image

I simply do not have the time to go through and write descriptions for every single file on ut-files.com; and asking others to do it is just wrong. ut-files.com is a MIRROR, thus most of the files are linked on other sites where there are descriptions.I just setup the site so you can access it directly if you needed/wanted without needing to login/register. I also made it a bit more prettier than the standard Apache directory index page.

You are something else. No wonder you can't keep a project going for more than like 6 months, you can't accept constructive criticism for anything and assume everyone is out to get you for whatever reason.

Feralidragon, I'm not arguing. Just backing up Billybill's claim that some of the downloads from that site are corrupt. No point in hosting them if they are corrupt, just a waste of "space" granted I think most of them are 0 bytes anyway. Why Kelly wants to think everyone is out to get him is beyond me. If he doesn't wish to fix the corrupt downloads, then that's fine; I don't really care either way to be honest. I've got my own site to worry about that does almost the same thing.

Well, it's a bit offtopic, but somehow related... ;)

Wish I'd found it before ! Though I think you have to DL the lot. I can't see a way of finding an individual DL :(
It seems to me that only archived ranges 30000-39999, 70000-74999, 75000-79999 and 110000-114999 are Unreal related. Can anyone confirm this, or do we indeed have to download it all?
At this moment, I downloaded those ranges and filtered out the Unreal stuff. If wanted, I can upload it (ut-files.com?), size is aprox 2,5GB.

Yeah you can upload it to ut-files.com, get the pw/username for logging into the FTP from the ut-files.com forums @ http://forums.ut-files.com

Then drop me a PM here or over there letting me know it's done uploading so I can move it on over to the correct location.

It is just Unreal Tournament files or all Unreal related files?

No it's not a problem, just needs to be sorted then.
