^ That's exactly what I mentioned earlier:
Feralidragon wrote:[...] and even the guys over CryTek already announced that Crysis 3 would be their last and their next game would be F2P as well [...]
although the fact that their publisher is EA says it all.

What he misses to say is that studios are not the same thing as publishers.
The publisher is the one who sets up the pricing, strategy, etc, the studio just develops. Given that Epic has been self-publishing most of the time or being the publisher themselves for another studios (People Can Fly comes to mind), I am not sure if Cliff knows the difference that well.
However, let's take a look at Crysis for example: it was developed by CryTek (the studio) and published by EA.
CryTek wants to make a free to play, but EA makes most of the rules for it, so if EA agrees to publish the game at the cost of their own rules on microtransactions, CryTek has to obbey if they sign that contract.

It's not all black and white. Adding to that, many of the advertising is misleading and you can't get your money back only because the game sucks. It's not like you see everything and decide to buy, many publishers hide very important details which when found out, it's too damn late and you already paid for stuff.

This is what separates EA from Valve and from many others. The problem is that Valve shows you exactly what you're going to pay for, and they do not surprise you with sudden backstabs like EA does.
For instance, when Team Fortress went F2P, the ones who had already paid for the game got automatically a "premium" membership. Do you see EA doing the same? I don't.
And again, I don't like Team Fortress as a game, but we have to be honest here: Valve doesn't go backstabbing their customers and that's why their "image" is far better than many others.
