The reason is that since discovering it, it became a standard part of my UT experience.
I often forget I am using it, as there is no obvious change.
It uses a few interesting ideas, and adds a bit more fake-physics and realism to things, without being too real.
This is the only version I ever found, and if anyone has a newer version that would be

The Mute is called Xanth-Realism, and the mod menu is called realism. On the menu you can adjust the damage scaling, as well as some visual realism. Realistic shellcases can be kicked around by players and are dynamically lit. Auto-Performance allows the mod to reduce the number of shells in case of low performance. Tolerance tells the Auto Performance setting how many seconds of low performance to deal with before reducing the detail.

I have to say that, standing in a pile of empty shell-casings is very satisfying, with any of machine-guns you use with it (also sounds great next to water).
It also no means that your empty ammo casings bouncing around can give you away.
Maybe people can think of some ideas to expand this ?
