Xanth-Realism

Post by Dr.Flay » Thu May 09, 2013 4:05 am

I thought I would draw your attention to this rare mod.
The reason is that since discovering it, it became a standard part of my UT experience.
I often forget I am using it, as there is no obvious change.
It uses a few interesting ideas, and adds a bit more fake-physics and realism to things, without being too real.

This is the only version I ever found, and if anyone has a newer version that would be 8)
Information:
Xanth - Realism: Adds location based damage to all weapons/mods

Updates:
5: Improved Menu, Auto Performance Adjustments, Troubleshooting Adjustments, Shells now have impact sounds
4: Menu Added, Damage Scales, Toggles for Realistic Shells, Pickups, Bullet Sounds, Increased Momentum, and View Distortion
3: Bullet Impact Sounds, Realistic Pickups, Buggy, View Distortion on Bullet Impact
2: This new version corrects issues with hitlocations on the body, body shots now will cause more damage as they are registered correctly
blood pools are now formed beneath a target after a headshot, removed options menu until it is completed
1: Initial Release-Head shots work, buggy body and leg shots, non-working options menu

Future Ideas:
Add Distance Based damage as well: Considering
Leg Shots Slow You Down: In Progress
Temporarily slow down when shot: In Progress
Add options menu: Implemented!
Blood Shoots out when shot: Implemented!

Installation:
Copy Xanth.int and Xanth.u to your UnrealTournament\System Directory

Use:
The Mute is called Xanth-Realism, and the mod menu is called realism. On the menu you can adjust the damage scaling, as well as some visual realism. Realistic shellcases can be kicked around by players and are dynamically lit. Auto-Performance allows the mod to reduce the number of shells in case of low performance. Tolerance tells the Auto Performance setting how many seconds of low performance to deal with before reducing the detail.

Also-i have posts on the Modsquad forums
I figure Loathsome and Higor may even want a look at this for their own reasons

I have to say that, standing in a pile of empty shell-casings is very satisfying, with any of machine-guns you use with it  (also sounds great next to water).
It also no means that your empty ammo casings bouncing around can give you away.

Maybe people can think of some ideas to expand this ?

Yup. It is surprising how much fun this small mod is.
It works with almost everything I ever tried.

Best of all it works well with Chaos and NW3, and enhances both very nicely :tu:
