Former [HS] (Hells Satans) clan member
Hi,
I'm 42, I've been playing UT since 1999 and started out with Unreal 1. I was using an AMD K63 400 and a Voodoo3 3000. It was my first true 3d FPS and I became hooked rather quickly. I am of the crowd that feels this is the best version of UT Ever! I had been disappointed with each newer version. UT3 is getting better, but has a long way to go. Its running much better on my E8400 C2D. I play mostly at Dawn's Deathmatch Palace and occasionally go for regular CTF or Strange Love servers. I joined the Hell's Satan Clan back in 2004 to 2005. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to play scrims and trailed off. Real life seemed to dismantle the clan, since most of us were of the 'older' crowd and had less time for play. I now just use [--] as a 'tag' ..if any. I tend to snipe a lot and enjoy long range kills with a locked on rocket (especially if you are carrying my flag). Deemers are meant to be used sparingly. Shock rifles were not meant to be the only weapon used in the game. Instagib doesn't give the satisfaction of slowly taking someone down. (slow bleed )
Right now I'm in need of assistance setting up UT on my new rig. The speed is way too fast and of course the opengl renderer makes things way too dark. Can anyone recommend what they think is the best version and list what is needed in Unrealtournament.ini? Thanks!

Watch this thread. I should have some sort of configuration options to post on here within the next couple of days.

Torturia,
The best place for OpenGL tweaking and setting is by Chris Dohnal , here's the site
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/
It is updated quite frequently and he also has an OpenGL settings page for the unrealtournament.ini.
Mine looks like this, with the latest OpenGL renderer installed from Chris Dohnal and the S3TC fix.
p.s. I got you beat, I'm 44 and was playing with a K62 400 and a Diamond Monster Voodoo

Re: Former [HS] (Hells Satans) clan member
My settings so easy a n00b can do it:
I recommend that you download Direct3D 8 or possibly OpenGL 3.4 since Direct3D 9 gets picked up as a cheat and OpenGL 3.4 doesn't run as smoothly as Direct3D 8
Direct3D 8
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utg ... 4.zipclick
Open GL
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utg ... 4.zipclick
install it and change your rendering device to Direct3D 9. After that run UT and type preferences in your system console and hit enter.
and then configure it to look like this:
NOTES:
You can set the frame rate limit to whatever you want-if you played on an AMD K6 with a low-end card (4 MB RAM) and maybe 256 RAM (or less) like I used to you may be used to something like 17-32 FPS
The lower your overall frame-rate the less slowdowns (if any) you encounter
The default value for refresh rate is 0, but I recommend that you set it to match your monitor's refresh rate (my monitor refreshes at 60Hz)
[Edit] sry small change because of the link

Thanks Rosco, I'll compare my ini to yours!
Oops! I forgot, my place of work doesn't allow links to photobucket type sites. I'll check your reply out when I get home. I will try the D3D9, what the heck Thanks!

Actually I just started getting back online (my wireless sucked too bad to be used in Windows, so had to run it through Linux until I got a new adapter) with my UT99 and a few servers recognize the renderer as a cheat. I recommend using either the latest Open GL or Direct3D 8 since servers don't recognize them as "byte hacked" devices. Oh and one more thing: If you have a decent enough rig you should check out this thread:Torturia wrote:Oops! I forgot, my place of work doesn't allow links to photobucket type sites. Using that guide you make a lot of UT99's graphics MORE DETAILED THAN ANY UNREAL ENGINE 2 GAME MODE BY EPIC.

Are those the ones from the 2nd Goty CD or are they better than those? Thanks!Lee_Stricklin wrote:Actually I just started getting back online (my wireless sucked too bad to be used in Windows, so had to run it through Linux until I got a new adapter) with my UT99 and a few servers recognize the renderer as a cheat. No those are not 2nd CD textures. Those are S3TC High-end textures from Unreal Texture.com. Info on all the textures can be seen on this page: http://www.unrealtexture.com/UT/Website ... xtures.htm

About to be non-active
My very last UT map project: CTF-FacePalm (tropical CTF-Face remake)
Why do I leave? click here
What I want to do next: Joining an UDK team (uncertain however) and improve 3D modelling and texture editing skills
Thanks to those who visibly supported me until/at the end!
My reactivated account on indiedb.com.

Hi Torturia. I had also problem of UT99 running to fast but because of my Dual Core processor. At first every time I runned the game I've disabled one of the processors and it worked fine. Later I've DL the AMD Dual core Optimizer and now it works fine.
