Hi everyone my names yandan im from australia. Its been a good few years since ive played to be honest and man do i miss it. im so glad to be back , so many sleepless nights playing this. unfortunately for me i cannot find a decent server to play in. The lowest ping i can find is about 300 ,is there anything that im doing wrong or are all the servers simply to far from me? really appreciate it if anyone could help me out so i can get back into it as soon as possible!

yandan - 2 options...

* Start your own Australian Server. (rent one, or run one on your home machine)
Or
* Play some existing servers that have a decent connection. (some should work for you)
I see players from all over the world playing well on my servers and others too!

server ideas good, though i cant imagine it being easy to setup. unfortunately i literraly dont get any decent servers, the only servers with people in them are 300+ ping for me. i guess all the aussies are too busy playing cs and cod.

if you have a high ping , it doesnt mean there are no australia servers. it can also mean you have slow internet for some reason

Welcome to forums.
It's definitely something with your connection. You should have about 150 ping on American servers.. try disabling some stuff in background (messenger, browser, updates, torrents?) or check if someone is stealing your bandwidth.

MAJOR (and most important) TIP: Do not use WiFi. use an ethernet lead to connect to the router.

cheers for the welcome and the advice guys. yeh i had a feeling something wasnt right. ive disabled wifi and have nothing in the backround. ive been having issues with my provider recently with them throttling my torrents so im sure their behind this someway or another. ill start doing some appropriate diagnostics when i get a chance and ill get back to you. hopefully ill be seeing some of you online in no time!

Switching off the WiFi isn't really the issue. It's just a case of using a cable, but if you do have WiFi off on the PC, change the "Zero config" service to "Manual" or "Stopped". That will help windows more.

The tracers will let you see how many hops between you and the destination IP, and where the bottleneck is is.
The DNS Benchmark program will let you find the fastest DNS lookups.
If you have a poor connection generally, then tweaking your network settings based on your actual normal DL speed, is the next step (Easiest for XP users).
