I'm new, obviously

Post by Faharis »

But not just new to the forum, I'm pretty new to the game as well. Been feeling stressed lately so I asked my friend for a good game. He pointed me towards this one. Still a little green so I figured I'd hit the web while in class, see what I could find.

Found this place, so here I am. Any tips for a newbie?

This is what I did as a newbie: I kept my head down (get comfortable with the game, don't try to do insane tricks and stuff like that all of the time), stayed silent (that means no taunting or trying to be captain unless your helping somebody that's getting screwed with) and said "good game" after most of my matches and kept a good overall sportsmanship. After a while (a few weeks or less) I got the hang of playing online and started doing stuff like jumping in and telling my team tactics or taking the role of captain when appropriate. Now one year after I started playing online I'm one of the most influential members of a clan. If your one for eyecandy/ooh pretty visuals you should check out my graphics guide (link under my signature) and watch out for the Extension Pack when it gets released. Just know that not all servers have UTRP compatibility if you use my graphics guide (just keep a backup of your Textures folder in case you have problems), you'll still be able to play on them, but if you do you'll get a player skating glitch.

Don't rise to taunts either, Don't feel down when you spend your first few days or even weeks at the bottom of the ladder.

Play offline at first for training too, helps you learn a few standard maps. However you will come across many unofficial maps -with these maps be prepared for a long download initially - some maps are massive.

Try out lots of modes! You never know what you might like UT99 has loads -

The standard set you see on the internet are CTF, DM and "Deck16 Servers".

There are also Bunnytrack Modes found on the CTF tab - Summed up to be Races,Puzzles and Mazes.

Zark Mode is very fast paced and shooting, found on almost all tabs except Rocket Arena (obv. BTW RA is usually always dead. :noidea )

Others worth looking out for are Nemesis X at the {WINGS} servers, UTSoccer, Binslayer, Siege, and so forth.

Last note.

Unique Servers, Unique Rules. Don't assume you know the rules of all CTF servers because you have played on one.

Hope this helps! :tu:
