Introduction

Post by AullidoSepulcral »

Hi, I'm very passionate about computer games, cars and Hip-Hop. I've been playing UT on/off since 2010, and my interest has resurfaced due a project I recently started for the unreal1 engine. I'll talk more about that further on. And that's the main reason I came here, to learn and get advice and tips from some UE veterans.

Also I have a cat named Bayou and he's the sweetest goofball.

Welcome and
I guess you are a Bathory fan
This is one of the best UT sites to start your journey. Many people visit from other sites and UT communities, so you should find any help you need.
Use the search here often, as many standard questions will have a thread already.
Hellkeeper has one of the most useful UEd sections on his own site. There you will find some tutorials and extras for UEd.

Depending on your needs from the engine or game, I would recommend that you also investigate Unreal and the Unreal 227 patch.
UEd2.1 is blessed with many things that are missing in UEd2 and UEd3.
There are also useful addons for UEd that will make life easier.
UT and Unreal both have new video and audio renderers available from OldUnreal. These add new functionality to the old engine, and are highly recommended.

Enjoy your stay, but don't drink all the coffee :confused2:

You should use a pic of the cat for your avatar here.

I sure am! Its actually pretty funny when I remember that my cat, the one who cries when he cant find me (he's such a baby!), got his name name from the man who is the embodiment of 1st wave black metal.

Yeah, he's apparently quite a figure on the ut99 and unreal community. I've already downloaded some tools from his page.

I haven't used UEd2.1, and Im sure its great, but unfortunately the project Im working on will made on a mod for ut99 (infiltration), not Unreal (when I said the unreal1 engine, I meant the engine used for UT, deus ex, the wheel of time, etc., as a whole). However, can I use it to make the mapping for my project on UEd2.1, taking advantage of its superior features, and then getting it to work for infiltration?

I'd have to take some pictures of him, I had about a hundred but lost the after my old hd died a scathing death. Gonna get the goofiest one possible and use it as signature :lol2:

If you still have you old drive, and the electronics and mechanics still work, there are quality tools available for free.
Often the heads are just getting stuck on bad blocks and will not continue. Very often it is a bad cluster at the beginning of the drive, and once that is fixed you can access the rest of the drive.
If the begining of the drive is the problem, this often means the BIOS cannot detect it properly, so a USB external HD case is a good idea.

Thank you very much for your help, but I've already put a good amount of time looking for a solution to a very difficult issue. In my specific case, the HDD is DEAD, no reconnaissance by neither system nor bios, no spin up, no nothing. My only chances are either swapping the platters with a working drive (very unlikely to work), or get a compatible PCB, and desolder the bios of the dead one and solder it into the new one. I have'nt bought the PCB because I have'nt found one I could try to swap (have'nt found any on my country's online stores, and the only one I've found is on ebay, but its rather pricey for me (around 50 usd, about what I get in 3 months from my parents and random work), and either way there is no guarantee that it will work. Fortunately, the data on it was'nt all that important, but noone likes to lose data. The worse part is that, I had a backup of that HDD on another external HDD, which I had formatted (file system errors) just some days prior to my HDD's death, and I did'nt felt like backing it up again because you never expect something bad happening. Ah well. Also, no chance of recovering my files from the ex. HDD, because I did a zero fill on it, and that was over 3 months ago, so if there's was any recoverable data in it, its been long over-written.

Also, excuse the text wall, I write way to much, but I can't help it.
