Server Security for ut99

Post by oZ_INF » Wed Jan 22, 2014 12:59 am

I heard the best patch to run for ut99 is 451 for server, and use 436 for client. Is this true?

Also What is the best security mod hands down for UT99 ? i do not like hackers and botters, help if you can?

There are several features in client version 451 such as when downloading files from redirects ... And other tweaks here and there .. Which I forget.. However the biggest 'con' is that this patch breaks the unrealEditor.. Meaning that you will not be able to use it.. If you patch to 451.. There is a 'b version.. ' but you will find that although unrealed opens.. You probably ly won't be able to move around in the 'viewports' ... In respect to version 432.. Great for offline play.. Not sure if it can go online.. I would recommend version 436.. As the editor remains in tact.. If you Google ut99 gotty download you will find a good copy @ Game front I think. ;)

As for security.. Hmm.. If you open your UnrealTournament.INI and do a search for bNoCheating , I think setting this to True will block all Major Hacks up to 1997.

^Jokes.. Wait for me for to post some links to the security patches.. There's a few you will need.. ;

Adv patch
Servercrashfix
Ace8

Will do the trick.. ;)

There are a few Things you can add to your server for protection:

ACEv8h (requires clients to install native part before playing on the server): http://www.files.unrealtournament.info/ ... _TO_FV.rar
AntiTweak will disable some known tweaks that cause uneven gameplay: http://www.files.unrealtournament.info/ ... eakV52.zip
Anti3Dcrash will disable the skin glitch causing clients to crash: http://www.files.unrealtournament.info/ ... dcrash.zip
AntiNetHack will disable the option to use speedhack (not all, but most common ones): http://www.files.unrealtournament.info/ ... ethack.zip
ConsoleChecker will detect if an illegal console is beeing used for unfair gameplay: http://www.files.unrealtournament.info/ ... hecker.zip

There are many more, but these are the basic ones I used.
Retired.

for serverside version check masterserverlist and see which is most common I guess.. I think 451 seems to be the best these days

for client side.. have 2 installs.. 436/451b

;)

also dane posted relevant patches.. aside from ;

ADV (blocks server crash exploit) http://unrealtournament.99.free.fr/utfi ... -patch.zip
ServerCrashFix11 (Blocks other Server Crashing Attempts) http://unrealtournament.99.free.fr/utfi ... ix_v11.zip

thanks a bunch i downloaded all these files. it will probably be a windows server, probably old school weapons mods and regular DM, anything else i can find like u4e i have now. im not too big of a fan of Linux cuz it doesnt run some maps and mods on unreal 1 and it might do the same for ut99.

For the most part, If I run all these mods in my server packages using 451, and playing on 436, would this kick alot of innocents or cause it to lag any?

ACEv08h_UT_TO_FV
antinethack
consolechecker
ServerCrashFix_v11
anti3dcrash
AntiTweakV52
unreliable-adv-patch

and the altering of the core int

If you do decide to use a Linux server, the 4.40 version from UTPG is the one to use.

That's for me the main reason to keep my version at 436. :wink:

billybill wrote:And it depends what type game type of server. Ace brings benefits but I wouldn't put it on a BT server. You have to stop telehacking though. I think you'd draw off the occasional BTer by going too over the top with anti tweaks, even the telehacking is used more for fun than capturing so it depends how serious your server is about capping and records.

For most other gametypes the ACE/Pure/Antitweak is going to be recommended. The skinhack one can be a CPU whore so check it is not producing errors. I posted a modified texture file a while back with one of the skins hex edited out.

There's also a difference between Win and Linux servers. With 451b being latest windows, 451 being latest linux. I would use *TNT*JustMe's (author of EUT)'s New_IPServer as well. There's an antishockho I wrote a while back that should stop animation taunt cheats. And you might need to do some messing around with the ipserver driver (ipadv?) as suggested above, I believe this is only for windows servers but I may be wrong
