Re: What's the best way to prevent cheating or DDOS attacks?

There is plenty of things to use but there is still not enough to reach compatibility on everything in UT99. I'm unsure about 2k4 servers though.

This have been discussed couple of times here on UT99.org. I guess it's a hot topic for new peoples getting into managing server. I'll list a few that is possibly relevant here.

Cool idea like Lag Comp. mod have it's own built in anti-cheat as well. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5201

& then awhile we may have some mods, some server host offer their own protection of DDOS. We have to supply anti-cheat. I don't know about the DDOS much but I think I haven't been touched by that problem much.

Probably the best places to go looking for UT2004 help are;

InspecktahDeck wrote:I've never encountered a problem with any of this, but I was wonder what the best mutator/mod/server package to put on my server for UT99 to prevent cheating/hacks/aimbotting was, and what the best way to prevent and deal with DDOS attacks are?

My server and group have been getting a lot more active and populated and I feel silly for having never thought of this before as a precaution. I know this is UT99.org, and not UT2004.org, so is there a good site to ask this for UT2004 or would people here know that as well?
I,m very sure there are some tools for that so far as i know the anty cheat will do the job for all the cheaters on the servers.
I can remember a anty cheat program with a aerosol ,and the color who has something todo with the cheat on the ut99 servers.
A ddos atack is nothing more with a group of people who does the command in the shell option in windows to a particulair website.
For examble ping http://www.download.com, and if a group of people doing this all the time the server will be down on a sertion point.
Also like the ut 99 servers can ping the server to out of service or while plaing the server will have alot of lags.

These atacks can be safed by a hardware firewall or a software depending on how the firewall is configured.
I think during the years ut 99 is devolept i,m very sure there are some apps who prevending sucha atacks on the servers.
When a server goes down this means that the server received ''a ping of death'' and ofcourse its a nightmare for server admins (ut 99 admins).
Howto prevend this , i,m very sure that there is a modern solution for this.hardware or software solutions , who prevending that the server will go after a while down.

And for cheating there are some programs specialy writen for ut99 for the server.
And it is just like chamberly did says its for a hacker not attractive todo a ping of death to a ut99 server, no they will choose a bankers website or a company
who is very very demanding on the internet who realy got a problem when a server or website goes down.
