Server-on-Demand

Post by garfunkle »

I will soon be hosting a server on gameservers for Ut2k4, which means the one I currently have on my home computer will not be needed. This will free up ports and resources for another server.
Now, depending on how well UT'99 would run on my connection (see speedtest.net results at bottom); I could run a UT 99 server as one is needed (providing pre-arrangements have been made), to a schedule, or permanently (to a home server's reliability being considered).
Now this could be a free service, donations welcomed or even a very small charge (depending on which option is chosen to be run).
It would be a linux run server (most likely Ubuntu, as i'm experienced with this, but can be negotiated), with support for redirect.
It may even be able to support a small, resource light, website through a LAMP setup.

I've come here to see if anyone would be interested in this kind of service? With care being taken about the server possibly being unreliable when compared to a professional server.
Feel free to post any thoughts regarding my ideas or your own.

I've had people playing on a UT2k4 and it ran well, which is why I was aiming more towards just letting people ask me to run one when they wanted, for small groups o' people.
