Marisa (fka Saya-chan) is back into modding
So I was browsin' the ZDoom forums some time ago and I came across this little gem called "shotguns.pk7".
In a nutshell, it replaces all blood with shotguns, these shotguns drop to the floor and shoot around, potentially causing more shotguns to be dropped if they hit someone.
And of course, this gave me a great idea for returning to UT modding! I took the base premise, and added some little extra spice of my own, the result was "Guns.u".
Screenshots don't really show much, it's more fun to experience it in action, but oh well:
Just a normal match in CTF-Face... where people burst into guns when killed
There's really not much to it, I just have a mutator that hooks into damage and death, and causes random guns to drop (not just one weapon in particular).
The magic comes from the configurability (through a ini file, I just can't figure mod menus out anymore). You can tweak many things about it...
Well technically you can tweak everything you want, the code is FOSS under the MIT license.
Code and assets are here (I'm surprised Github recognizes Unrealscript).
You can build it yourself with the usual "ucc make" or just grab the precompiled package (not a good idea to have it included in the repo, but oh well).
There's also a config file with some nice defaults to play with etc. etc.
PS: Redeemer-only mode makes most maps unplayable, but it's hilarious

So you can pickup every "dropped" weapon? Hmm... Maybe you will like this weapon.

Nah, they're actually just a new class based on my old Pinata "Dropper". No actual pickups are spawned.
And yeah, if the limit is set to 2000 in the ini I provide, it's for a reason. Anything above that could potentially crash the game.

Imagine this with a game mode.
eg. instead of health, you drop a weapon. Once you lose all your weapons, you die.
If you are quick enough you could run and pick it back up, before you get shot again.
A variation could be that you drop your ammo.
Volatile weapons and ammo, could also add some "drama".
Obviously the standard mutator functions already fit, but they could also be triggered instead of deleted, when the actor timer counts down.
