Thank you for your interest in FoodFight. This is the end result of years of work by many people and it has truly been a labour of love by those involved. For discussion of the mod or to contact paper please drop by UT99.org, your place for friendly discussion and assistance of all things Unreal.


BACKSTORY

Year 2293...Losing the tournament to Malcolm, despite having the latest in technology and intelligence coding, was truly devastating. Because of this Xan Kriegor was hastily recalled to Liandri Mining Corp to be upgraded to Xan Mark II. During this process Xan was completely disassembled for augmentation and system diagnostics. Because defeat in the tournament's final round was so crushing to the Corp, their analysts spent a vast amount of time dissecting the match. It was agreed that Xan's one fatal flaw was his use of patterns when acquiring pickups. He had spent so much time training in the Hyperblast arena that his subroutines automatically used the most efficient paths. This allowed humans to adapt to those and use them to defeat Xan. It was decided to start over because of this and so Liandri techs wiped Xan's intelligence controller. It was removed and a newer (and much more powerful) in-development A.I. was used. His old controller was flagged for the scrap furnace and discarded.

Searching for parts to use to automate the kitchen's robotic staff (particularly one that inserted the PAPER COFFEE filters into the brewers was most troublesome), a lone culinary tech stumbled upon Xan's old controller in the trash heap. GENerally MoKai was more careful but he tossed this into his pack with the IDEa FIXed in his mind to upgrade his robots. His last sandwich idea, the gyRO, HIT GGARG (his boss) as perfection on a bun and MoKai looked to continue his success. Perhaps he would one day be boss of the kitchen..."One can dream I suppose," he said quietly to himself.

Had MoKai inspected his find a bit closer he might have seen that a solitary red LED still glowed inside...Xan still lived!

Shortly after installation in the kitchen's robots Xan awoke and began enacting his revenge. He duplicated his AI across the culinary robot staff and ordered them to make weaponry using whatever was available. Now, instead of packaging food into the outbound shipping containers, his minions were making all manner of devices for the robots in the outlying colonies to use to implement his cybernetic uprising. He would show these filthy humans who was truly superior once and for all.

As fate often does, it intervened to alter the course of events and ended up saving humanity in the process. Simple human error averted this crisis. An inventory specialist accidentally ordered these food weapon crates to be delivered to the tournament arena instead of the normal weapon ones and Xan's plan was discovered. A violent quelling ensued, the kitchen was purged, and his robots destroyed. The robotic uprising was over.

Realizing that these unique items were indeed deadly, tourament players quickly adjusted to using the food based weapons. The 'Food Fights' had begun...

I'll take now a little break from UT and concentrate on drawing again.
I'm not leaving ...just making other stuff. ;)

Maybe some graphics for the new UT.

You definetly deserve the break, paper. Just don't foget to come back :lol: . Good luck with the drawings!

My bro tried the mod out and loved it. Played CTB on CTF-NightAndDay and it was one insane match there :shock: :twisted:

I can promise you that if you post a few screenshots of your texture work on the FF weapons and a couple of your logos and banners you'll get multiple offers for work. It's going to be more than you can handle.

I finally got around playing this mod. And I'm very happy that it has been released at last. Congratulations to all the makers!

I remember having tons of fun when there was a beta release with 4 or 5 weapons some years back. Now, having the full arsenal of possibilities, it couldn't get any better. I really like the new gameplay changing features, such as the Carroteer's platform builder (though, when I see carrots that I haven't shot, I always catch myself wanting to pick those up isntead of jumping on them :tongue: ). I'm also practising to block attacks with the frying pan, which adds another good way to show who's the skilled among all!
It took me quite some time to get used to the new weapons because their destructive power seems to be higher than the usual UT weapons. Consequently, you added reloading animations and most weapons have a more lethargic fire rate. I didn't feel annoyed by the adjustment to the new techniques, on the contrary: This adds another value to the mod by setting it apart from the standard weaponry way more than just by different looks.
Speaking of that, the textures and overall style work very well. What else could you expect from papercoffee? I laughed at the sound of the milk packs and that the UDamage reflects the leader's favorite drink. The animations and effects are pleasing. However, the arms seem a little flawed compared to the quality of the rest. Especially the reload animation of the Carrotteer defies the law of natural proportions a bit too much for my taste. But this doesn't reduce the fun factor at all. Another rather negative apsect that I noticed is the size of the weapons, as most of them cover almost half of the screen! I felt restricted at certain time when I didn't see an enemy due to the weapon. Well, it adds another spice to the gameplay, you just gotta be prepared for this handicap :mrgreen:

I'm definitely looking forward to more sessions with this fun mod. Next time I'm going to master BurgerCTF!

BurgerCTF is really awesome and works very well on symmetrical maps.
I work on a map right now ...I thought it would be cool to use the FF texture pack.

I'm sorry, I didn't use the FF texture pack because the textures are way too big for me, I'd like to see more of them in a package that's 14 megabytes+
UT99's compression just isn't made for high res textures.

Hello hello hello~

I tried Food fight with bounce and thought they were simply hilarious together. I noticed one problem however, that is that since both mods replace the health pickups,
playing bounce with food fight means that you end up without any means to restore your mass (weight) normally.

What I am asking for is permission to make a simple cross-mod plugin that alters the Food Fight health pickups to add mass in addition to health, as well as perhaps a bounce compatible
version of Burger CTF, ideally the plugin will require both Bounce and food fight to be installed, but won't touch the files of either mod.

All I'm asking for is your permission to give this a shot. Since I don't want to encroach on your territory without asking first!

Seeing this made me reinstall UT just to check it out, and I'm glad I did. This is very Unique and I love it, it's very well done and brings new things to an old game. As once a developer I would like to Express my deepest compliments on a job well done :tu:

And no need to worry, UT is uninstalled again :mrgreen:
