Greed.

It's just the perfect blend for me between Capture the Flag and Team Deathmatch, where its introduction is one of the best things about UT3. I generally don't like traditional CTF that much, so I had never played its maps all too often, but Greed turned out so much fun for me that this opened up a whole new world.

Luckily, there is a good conversion of the gametype for UT99, included in the XVehicles mod, but it can be run standalone.

I think the lost mod "Capture the Cow" for the original Unreal (but older versions) might count as "favorite". Sadly it is lost to time following the big 2000 crash of Unreal modding websites, hell it was even featured in the old make something unreal together with the lost "Unreal 2D" isometric mod, the first of its kind.

There was a similar gametype Kill the Cow in pre-release Unreal that was not released with the base game, this was a reconstruction...

however since then a later/proper version was recovered with defaultproperties added into it...but I couldn't update the vanilla mod version with those default properties which should make it less buggy. The 200 port was a blend of the february 98 leak default properties and the march 1998 unreali file (which lacked a build to go with it) which we couldn't get default properties out of. Sadly this gametype fully breaks when ported to 220 and above due to too many changes within the unreal code when it comes to teamplay.

But this was the Unreal team's original ctf unique vision lol.

Another favorite ctf thing might be nonamectf for Unreal, which is a surviving mod and had a modern 224plus port as well. I don't like all the features it brings but it allows users to configure ctf basically on any map they like and they can save a config file/u file with preset location for the flag and capture point. The nonamectf mod has flag and capture point as separate actors so you can't just touch the flag. But most of the deathmatch maps were preconfigured/loaded. I do like improvised ctf more sometimes, because that's even how it started on Quake before threewave had special ctf maps...

Edit:
I did ask aspide to make a modern version if possible. But here is the script export from the may 6/7 version (note that the gametype was already discontinued by that point and it had just a leftover).
UnrealMay6SCR.zip
I didn't export it since most of this year I was not allowed to use a windows machine since I left "home" and since then the floods destroyed everything.

Please note that this implementation is also different than what they started to do with the earlier versions including the engine version 99 based february beta leak. There in the script comments it clearly says they wanted to turn the cow head into an actual item to be carried. But that changed. In this implementation(and the march's) it is an actual gib that has special properties and you can carry it like a flag.

I would also like if there could be somewhere down the line a more dangerous version:
Kill the Nelsian

lol
