DM - Realms (working title) preview

Post by Rob_Master Builder »

It's been a LONG, LONG time since I touched UnrealED but I had the urge to update some of my old maps just for myself and In the process got bitten by the bug again.
So In short I started workong on a simple DM map, using assets I had left over from my last map, just to speed things along before I start a proper map.

Just wondered what you guys thought, here are some early shots :

It has potential, but the lights looks very light, maybe a bit more color?

Thats a clever guess but It wasent that thoughtfull, It's not the full title either, It was 'DM-Haunting Of The Realms' a tribute to an underrated classic Realms Of The Haunting. :D

It's been to long, Smeerkat how the hell are you mate? :D
Please tell me your still mapping or might be thinking about starting back maybe even with good old UT99?

Those shots above are ancient now by the way, the maps completely changed, I've even called It DM-Epitaph ][ as a tribute to our map pack. :tu:

I'd like to build another map, but I'm wondering how many people still play UT99, if it justifies the hundreds of hours of work? The new Unreal engine is more like playing with Lego blocks, using a lot of prefab meshes instead of old-school brushwork.

Although you lost the domain name, I still have the old landing page:

http://www.kens.net/unld.html

Anyway, I reinstalled UT99, on my current machine. So I'd gladly download any finished custom maps. 8)

This Is one of the reasons why I havent migrated to the lastest UT, the Fisher Price style level design Isnt much fun unless you know Max or Maya and I still havent learnt these....
Then theres 'Karma', I've programmed In the past so I thought It would be a walk In the park but God you need It for everything and It drove me nuts.

You should have a go at building a map, just dont start off to serious. I created a play around map for my little girl, no guns/bots just a few Nali's and creatures walking around and this has now ended up being the map I'm contributing but It's completely changed now of course.

I love the landing page, I've NEVER seen It, It looks good and the style works well as you can see exactly what you need, not lots of links, adverts, flashing crap etc to distract.
