Certain colors act as transparencies in UT, and I believe that green is supposed to too.

If not, I tend to edit these things outside of UT and then covert them back to .pcx after the fact.
Oh oki ty, I thought it was against the rules to create a new entirely different package :D
Take the UTX I've created, open the log window and write...

Code: Select all

obj load file=UT99org3072uuContest.utx package=MyLevel
Hit enter. If you can't see the MyLevel packages in the texture-browser, repeat.
Read here: https://wiki.beyondunreal.com/Legacy:MyLevel
Or just take the UTX, use it and add it into your zip file ...but don't change the UTX.
If you see the mask (green space) around the badge set the texture to masked in your map.

This is false, UT does not care what specific colour is used for transparency, often a highly contrasting colour is used by the person making the texture to easily see what pixels will become transparent.
UT uses 256 colour indexed images, what determines transparency is the very first colour in the index of the image, this is why different textures have different colours that will become transparent when you enable the transparency flag in the editor. What exactly determines what the first colour will be depends on the software used to create colour index of the image, some programs allow you to manually tweak this index allowing you to easily create an image that has proper transparency in UT.

That can't possibly be enforced, cuz Hermskii's son is only recently 18 and that kid's been slaughtering me online since 2011.

To reiterate:

We like a friendly competition here, but once you have submitted a map, it is submitted.
You can have a W.I.P. thread to post in, but any posted maps here will be harvested and distributed, even if they are not finished and crash your PC.
Pre-release maps should always be named with "Alpha", "Beta" or "WIP" so that they cannot be confused if uploaded to a server.
Use the chat rooms and PMs for help that requires sharing an unfinished map.

We will allow fixed or v2 maps for the bonus pack.

As for the adult content of maps, and the assumption that everyone that plays UT is an adult.
UT is older than some of the people that now play it, and It has been introduced to another generation younger than the one it was made for.
I am under no illusion that only adults play it, because it has become a family game.
UT is an acceptable violent game for many children, because it is firmly rooted in fantasy, with a focus on the "Unreal".
I choose to play on family-friendly servers, because people spend more time shooting with their guns, than with their mouth.
Generally those servers also don't require a "please unban me" thread in their forums.

As far as I am concerned you can make an adult-oriented map, but any screenshots should be cleverly angled, or disguised.
Make the map name very obvious.
Porn in maps, in my opinion is generally never worth doing or make interesting playing.
It is truly a rare find to see a map that is not simply a lazy excuse to use a collection of favourite pictures, instead of integrating them into the map in a believable or entertaining way.
If your plan is not at least as clever as the infamous DM-SexCityXXX, you are wasting your time.
Bare in mind that if a reviewer chooses not to review the map it may lower your score.

What everyone is overlooking is the fact that each country has different (and constantly changing) restrictions on distribution of adult material, and at the moment we are rated as family safe, so do not require visitors to prove how old they are when visiting (this is about to become mandatory in the UK or the site will be blocked unless you specifically ask the ISP to provide age restricted sites) .
We would very much like to keep it the way it is.
Currently we are knee-deep in over sensitive idiots ready to scream Gamergate ! so keep it in context with your map theme.
UT does not tend to get the same criticism as other shooters, possibly because there is a large percentage of female UT players.
We would very much like to keep it the way it is.

Hey man, I've thought about something for a map but so far I've been busy with a bunch of other projects (building a server and working on a very late birthday present amongst other things) but you're making it tempting join.

Hmm there are about 12 days left in the contest, I might be able to throw something together if I manage to free up some time XD.

UT doesn't get the same criticism as other games because nobody plays UT, and nobody cares about it. I highly doubt UT has any higher percentage of female than most games...and less than many games out today.

Just say the real reason you don't want sex stuff in maps, because it's ridiculously stupid and childish and has nothing to do with the game or gameplay or immersion there of. (and that's coming from somebody admittedly quite immature :P )

Sorry for the delay, very busy week :omfg: . Finally updated the maplist at the 1st post

@Carbon : I understand your concerns, and I think you are right. It's just that we did contests like this since the 1st contest I believe, as even then we had more of a friendly map-off then a contest. Mappers posted pics, they got feedback and the mappers improved the map before submission. Can't really stop mappers from doing that now. :noidea .

Agree with this part, however... in some map which I do is not about some sexual part, it do happens at end... when player is almost to finish map not during game-play, it's not a very big deal, just a lousy sound...

I could see other problems related to a cube full of brushes... so I went over some Editor's features at building map as long as BSP build from Editor probably is closer to what it does with auto-pathing :loool: . So I cannot count on it that much, I might be badly wrong but I have done couple of tests (on-line included) using 2 video-card types and different machines I did not see any crash or such occurrence. Some lil flicker < 1 ms seems to happen related to torchflame type lightning in a zone (other map might even deliver a nice crash there) that light type is maybe unfriendly with render or it's indeed buggy by default... I'll see technical feedback (not artistic feedback) at the right moment.

Regarding to what some people say about a MH map 3072, is not short at all, I even reduced factories as long as I was almost to run out of time (read again), and I've stopped game for fixing a misaligned brush (around 2 UU) - after over 2 hours of play, Bots are semi-active (not very roaming for stuff) they are not on purpose to do the job for you, but they can end map without to break as I could see helping human with their flesh for monsters :lol2: keeping them distracted a bit.
