Requested DOM map fix

Post by EvilGrins »

It's a Facing Worlds type map, with 5 control points:
Image
it has one glaring BSP error and a few minor ones here and there
Image
Problem: Anytime I play this map it freezes UT so I've gotta forcibly exit out... which with Windows 10 usually means restarting the computer.

Fixing the BSP would be nice but mostly I'd like it fixed so it stops freezing the game.

Anybody up for this?

If it's also possible to adjust, the indicators for the control points? Can that be lowered a bit so it doesn't cross over the talkbox?

It's possible ...by reducing the control points.

Well, what render do you use?
And what resolution are you runnin' the game on? (Resolution is the key. - Try a bigger one - )

800x600, same as my screenshots... and because I post a lotta screenshots much larger resolutions aren't ideal because the file sizes become too large.

Well, the easiest way to fix this is to change your resolution. I smell some trade-off comin'...

...ummmm
Or you could just play in any resolution and scale the screenshots to a suitable web size.
All image software tends to offer standard screen resolutions for scaling, and using Irfanview or similar means you can just point it at a folder and let it convert everything.

BTW. Filesize is only half the issue. You can easily post a massive JPG with a tiny filesize if you enable the useful optimisations. Just as easily you can make a low-resolution JPG with a huge filesize if you disable all the optimisations.
The issue with large images is that different site software and browser configs, may or may not scale them to fit the viewable area, so often people can only see the top left corner of the image.

Use RIOT in full auto mode to make sure your images are sensible for web pages (eg. fast). It is also available as a plugin for Gimp and Irfanview.

Note: If you upload large pictures here instead of using off-site links, then a thumbnail is presented so it fits no matter how big the images.

I don't do screenshots in JPEG. For varying reasons, primarily in red, JPEGs smudge certain colors, make them look fuzzy.

All my screenshots are PNG, hence why my shots are so crystal clear and finely detailed:

Well, there is a way to bypass this whole trade off thingie...
You can have those icons lowered by modifyin' the HUD.

Ya, I went to the first point (I think blue tower), touched it, and game froze.

So what I did was "order" all the actors to "last"

Right Click a brush

Select ALL brushes

Look on tools for Ying-Yang icon "invert selection"

All actors will be selected now, Right click any actor

See "Order" and click to"last"

Rebuild map, it worked right away, I don't think it's a HOM problem.

I can guess it's probably some occlude BSP error. Those can often take a long time to crash awhile spamming the log.

But hey, yay for solution!

Well everything is in order now. :P

My first thought was, the way it crashed by touching the DOM point, as if the map was not built.
So I was thinking to make sure everything is "inside" the BSP-map

I didn't look, but didn't see any massive HOM, even when it did crash. :noidea
