Editor keeps crashing at new light.

At first I blamed the textures :

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12796

Then I blamed the map.
Started over in new .unr , copied over some brushes, imported downsized textures, working like charm over a mostly over a week now. lightning, building playing everything!
Never had the problem in the new .unr including copied brushes. But today after coming home from work, wanting to go further with the project, it is back!!!!

Whenever, I duplicate or add a new light, the editor crashes......

Here is a demonstration

g-h3rLiTbrQ

Hope you can find a soltution because I can not think of a cause, or would it be textures again???
Or is a there a faulty brush? No idea.....

It could be going over the node limit.

I doubt that, it doesn't even reach a bare 3500 nodes. My CM4 map reaches around 34000. :lol2:

But maybe the stats tell you another thing perhaps?

Thanks for the try Hellkeeper.

What does the crash log/msg say?

Just to test a silly notion: have you tried deleting an existing light and then adding a new one?

See if 1 less changes anything.

Export the map to a .t3d file, create a new map and import the .t3d back.
Then rebuild and try again.

If it still causes problems, post the exported .t3d file here.
There's probably a borked light somewhere, with the same internal name as the one you end up adding or something. If this is the case, it can be manually removed or fixed in the .t3d file itself and reimported without issues.

sorry for the long way. Busy at work. Bleahh.......... hot burning sun all day. Just got home.

@ Papercoffee :

1skybox, 1 main map area, and 2 unofficial(water)zones.

@ EvilGrins, yes I did.

@ Chamberly .... that is a good one! I totally forgot to check that! Hopefully there is the truth to find...

@FeraliDragon,
Hm.... somewhere I already did that, but then I copied over...... stuff..... The towers and such.

I'll upload the map, and will try your solutions as well! Thank you for the great input everybody. :highfive:
Normally I help people with UED questions, yet I am the pupil this time ahaha :mrgreen:

It is all just early stuff..... You can toy with it in anyway you like
Here it is, fire at will.

I think it has to do with the light and the number of illuminated surfaces: your lights have a big radius (250) and you have structures with a lot of surfaces (the towers). Take out either these structures or reduce the light radius - no crash will occur any more.

Hint: you don't need the task manager to terminate a crashed UnrealEd, the following keys also end UnrealEd:
Alt+Tab -> takes focus back to UnrealEd
Alt+Space -> opens Windows System Menu
ArrowUp -> select "Close"
Enter -> Activate "Close"
Enter -> Press "Ok" on UnrealEd's error message

It happened to me too many times, you can try going to wireframe mode, palace the new light and rebuild. It's the light calculation while you move the camera or the light itself that crashes the editor.

I removed the stairs from the towers and removed all lights. Then added and tuned the lighting's radius down to a 150 with a bigger brightness . I must say, it does seem it to work..... so far.
Fingers crossed..... :agree1: Image

Thanks for the input guys. :tu:

Yeah, big bright lights, especially when clustered together, can also crash the game.
That's why I had to limit the brightness of dynamic lights in my mods (to 100 if I remember correctly).

That's all ? Then I'm already not interested about anything here...

Then I think it safe to say, we have the cause of problem. :tu:

Yes, as I said at HUTP, that is what I suspected was the problem.
Good to see this map project going well again. :gj:
