MyLevel.utx in some maps, how to change textname?

Hi
I saw some interesting maps buy with the silly MyLevel.utx packaged into the map, If I find one map I like to play together with another maps that they do have the same filename....they could be overwriten causing "no-filled" or "missing" textures areas when ingame but not crashing the ut.

Im novice in ut editor, how could I rename this package to another but with a unique name avoiding mismatching with another maps? What are the steps to achieve this?
Thanks!

I would export every texture, then import to make a new texture file not named mylevel and rename the textures..

Then go through the map either by selecting same texture, go to you new file and click on it to change it to the new same texture.

At the botton in the editor also type "texture cull"
Save map
exit the editor
Then check what textures are still from the old file.

There is also a texture replace thing, but you still need to make a new texture file to pick from.

Also if there is some custom deco that uses a texture you need to delete the deco or MyLevel will still always be needed.it

If you are new to UnrealEd this can be a challenging task. If you want to learn the editor, it is ok. Otherwise I'd provide a download link and ask if someone can do that. For an experienced mapper it is just a finger exercise.

Assuming it's not MyLevel.MyLevel...
Um... If is referenced an EXTERNAL texture file this is not good, if those textures are packed/located in MAP this is NOT a Problem - it's how MyLevel works.
One of those "cute" outdoors maps was referencing and external U file stupidly called MyLevel.u which... I simply imported the idiotically exported junk back into map and deleting external Mylevel.u, simple as that. "New map" worked fine.

Here I would like to see first if map can be started without that UTX - might be a fake export. Some of those sh!te have textures archived/shared, but map it's not even using them - see UTDMT garbage, UTX file it's not even loaded by map.

In some cases you don't even need that MyLevel.utx file, the author does include it, but the textures are already MyLeveled (if that makes sence). Again, only some cases. :loool:

How could do this two things? I mean exporting and importing them

mmmm dunno what I do here, there are many maps I would like to be in my collection (most of them with mylevel.utx file included in it are in unrealarchive.org a great site thanks shrimp!), Then should I make a few list of them not all, there are shitty maps and not so shitty (decent to say at least in some way) maps and post here? I dont what to overcharge you guys nor not to take advantage of this great forum

pd: What if I try to edit the unr map by using a hex editor and replacing the utx filename by replacing with an unique texture name to the utx file and then rename the utx file itself? Could this way work?

Open the Texture Browser, select a Texture and choose "File > Export...". If you import a Texture via "File > Import...", either choose a new, unique package name. Or import it into your earlier created package. (Never change existing packages!) After you have imported all textures, chose "File > Save".

According to this page there are only a few maps using a file with such a name and only one DM map. (Why are they not linked? Put it on the todo list, Shrimp 8) )

Just try it. ^^ Of course the filename length should stay the same.
Also every package (*.UNR, *.U, *.UMX, ...) has an unique GUID, but I don't know if it is used to reference files.

No, that's just that particular Mylevel.utx - see here and here for two other versions!!

Well... this is a nice chapter for that "map fixing service" thread which went quiet.

If you have an external MyLevel.utx, I think it can be dropped in map without major problems in order to not mess with other "maps" having the same "Sh!t-Head" type work. At Wiki is explained to NEVER save any Mylevel but ignorant ones are deaf and blind, to not mention the same names used for devs which in 2019 it's still a dumb practice for no reason.

If you have one more handy, you can drop it here and I'll be interested to check it. If it can be fixed I'll drop here a few "screens" taken during working process. Might be helpful for anyone interested in cleaning up other messed up maps. I could point here one having an U file but that's probably OFF-Topic because here is about UTX attached...
Edit: A bit of research
According to what said Oijtroc I went to check something

Code: Select all

    File: DM-1-on-1-AsH.unr
  CRC-32: f54c6829
     MD5: 7b66d40e9bc89e054a212569af2a2e85
   SHA-1: c8f2baf48f826a70202b2520cbb0fed0a56721cd
 SHA-256: a3e59d8974092ecc665706ad4317a108e78da1e545f6976ea932bc568e05d11e
At Medor, map DM-1-on-1-AsH.unr looks located in two archives, one of them having 60 MB - suuuureee... If first archive was a few kb how the heck it's possible to have the same small map requiring a crap-ton ? Fake news of course....
Archive content is as follows:

Code: Select all

wood2.utx
MB.u
C4.u
de2.u
R.utx
P.utx
o.utx
ath.utx
M1.utx
Jump.utx
Fluid.utx
Engine.utx
A9.utx
22.utx
UnrealShare.uax
Ling.u
Botpack.uax
MyLevel.utx
RUSH.utx
sky.utx
DM-1-on-1-AsH.unr
TECNO1.umx
ION.utx
Eightball.utx
earth.utx
Lemme see, except music file TECHNO1.umx I did not need anything for opening map - looks fine, btw. And now I'm coming with questions:
- What is for BotPack.uax ? Is it even opened ?
- What is for Engine.utx ? - || - || - ?
- Why do I need to look at MyLevel.utx when map is not even reading that Trash ?
- Why this f..ing retarded archive must be hosted with all those USELESS things ?
- and so on...
I'm suspecting some "map-manager" has sorted these for being packed... I think you can earn at least 5 GB HDD space by removing all these borks added for no reason.

So the spoiled archives have found the way to the new database UnrealArchive... :x Too bad, this would had been the chance to create a clean and usable file database.
Most of these archives contain not needed files like WOOD2.UTX, PUPAE.U and so on, see my posting Lousy Map Package Archives.

From my experience (~1000 MH maps checked and found not usable, ~650 MH maps were ok and put on server) maps that are really using such a silly name for a package are quite seldom.
