Well good, because I'll probably do a thing after the 20th anniversary contest.

You want ridiculous?! I'll show you ridiculous! I'll-

-spend this weekend making a serious map for a silly contest. Really I just felt inspired to make something small, and needed to look at something besides my Valhalla map.

DM-RMC-Fishbowl
It's a giant room map, except the playable area is confined to a decorative little castle thing inside an aquarium. I hope this is tiny enough. At least the players are tiny.

That guy on the bed doesn't look so tiny.

But he's also not playing.

After them Mylevel issues it didnt really take long to remake. I think so far it fits all the ridiculous! Criteria. Just tweaking lighting and adding details.

Titan bouncing the players around just adds to the ridiculousness.
I think it's like a 4mb with large music file. hence the 14.6mb.

I just don't know if it's ridiculous enough.

EDIT: updated download with V1 as Music file was not .umx

This should be all good.

So I've updated the 1st post in the thread with downloads for each map submitted thus far. Seeing as this contest doesn't end until 2021, there's still time for more entries.

Now, for the 1st review!

DM-RMC-Fishbowl
· Map is both tiny (play area) and large.
· 3 weapons.
· Music is kinda meh.
· 2 health, 1 armor.
· Pupae stuck in an area it cannot get out of, nice.

What we've got here is basically a 2-story castle in a fishbowl, making this only the 2nd inside a fishbowl map I've ever seen. There's another that was entered into a different ut99.org mapping contest, blanking on the name right now. The outer world is large but not accessible, which is good as that would've been a disqualification.

Image

Map is well pathed, bots use the entire space. The health on top of the castle is a little aligned wrong, meaning bots tend to land on them without picking them up at first... but they do get them eventually.

This is a really good map, ideal for arena battles.

Now that I have finished Blice, this would probably be a fun and quick one to do.
I have something in mind for this which should be really quick to do, but the result should be fun, with no custom packages or effects.

I just have a few questions about the rules:
· Map must be tiny: you mean file size or map size? How tiny are we talking about here?
· Map must have at least 1 thing to hide behind: does a spawn point count? Should you be able to hide behind it at any point during the rest of the game after spawning?

JackGriffin said he had an idea too (over on House of Fool's forum) but he said he didn't think he'd have enough time. Still another whole year, how much time does he need?!?

Size of map, file size isn't a big deal. Enough room to fight in but not that big. Think small Arena style.

Can you hide behind a spawn point? Aren't they not solid??

Yeah, by "hide behind" I was implying from enemy fire.

What I mean with the spawn point is similar to the spawn points in Blice: there you spawn in a place where you're hidden and protected from enemy fire from 3 sides.
But in the case of this map, I was thinking at most to make players to spawn in places where they would technically be hidden from enemy fire, but once they joined in the fun they wouldn't be able to get back there (at least not easily).

The kind of map I am thinking in doing, without spoiling too much, wouldn't let you stop from moving essencially, quite literally, and the enemy will need a good aim to be able to hit you, and it's meant to be a rather crazy experience.

Having that said, I will see what I can come up with on regards to these requirements.
If it works well, it will probably be something you have never seen in any map. :)

Hmm... I might have just the map for this contest, trouble is the „at least 1 monster” rule for me, as the map might be too tiny for that :P

Also question, how AWESOME is default music for ya? I wanna keep the filesize low for this one :D

Pretty awesome.

I recorded a cassette tape of UT music years back to listen to when I was driving.

Must have been Aquarius, by Sinical, for the 2014 512k contest. Great map too.

While I didn't make a specific rule for it, a lot of the mappers have been using an "RMC" prefix in their map names, so I renamed papercoffee's to match that.

DM-RMC-EvilGrins01
· Map is really compressed for space, tiny but plenty of room to move.
· 2 weapons.
· Music is cool.
· Several health vials, 1 armor.
· Warlord with above level health, though he didn't last long.

Added Note: paper updated this map, but it's fundamentally the same, he corrected some issues with the 1st version, so I'll just link the updated download for it when it comes time to judge.

Image

What we've got here is basically a funnel map sideways, a staircase that wraps around a central column; has a curious purple tile pattern on the floor at the top and bottom of the staircase which seems kind of out of place as it matches nothing else on the map. Staircase pattern is repeated on the ceiling.

The Warlord did a lot of damage before it was killed; average health for one of those is 1100, this one is closer to 1260.

Image

Most of the combat is pretty quick, I'd recommend players do this map with a mutator that protects them a bit after they respawn... because almost as soon as they get back in they're gonna get riddled with ammo. For the most part players have to orient themselves and start shooting immediately, current life expectancy is...
Image
...about 3½ seconds.

Tight space, fast action, ideal map for LMS games... I'm loving this. It really only has 1 flaw to speak of, which isn't a very big deal.

Image

Name of the map isn't in the selection window. Again, not a big thing but it seems careless.
