Mapping Advice/Wisdom (not entirely serious)

Post by EvilGrins » Mon Mar 08, 2021 6:17 am

Anyone can post advice to this thread

1. When setting up a map, if you're using any form of auto-cannons remember to set them so they don't attack people on the team they're supposed to be defending.

Telefrag cannons if they are annoying while are shooting at enemy and accidentally hitting team-mates.

You can even use a PlayerStart in the place. First dude or lady spawned there will get rid of them :lol2: .

Be wary of all aspects of an original map in how it impacts variants of it.

Everybody loves CTF-Face and there's hundreds of edited variants of it, but only 1 that I know of where it was taken out of outer space and placed on a planet... which wouldn't be so bad except that the land stretches just as far as space did on the original and the outermost edges aren't pathed. So bots, monsters, and other mapping elements that wander out that way tend to get lost.

When placing Titans on a map, be they normal monsters or UTDMT, always place them downhill or down steps.

For some reason Titans can go up steps but not back down them. Similar with hills, mountains, and ramps.

Don't eat the apples. Place them on the ground and walk away.

When in the event something about your mapping project is not working as you want it to, and nothing else seems to be helping the problem, do NOT sacrifice your pets or children to the Gods.
