DOM-RMC-Jupiter (Release!)

Post by ExpEM »

It is done!

Readme:

Code: Select all

Readme for DOM-RMC-Jupiter for Unreal Tournament
-----------------------------------------------------
My entry for the UT99.Org Rediculous Mapping Contest.

Featuring a tower top arena inspired by Jupiter lighthouse from the Golden Sun game series.
And the main attraction of a massive Cyber Dragon.

Nearly two years went into this, mostly on the Cyber Dragon code.
Having to start the Dragon code from scratch again part way through didn't help.

I hope you all find it worth the wait.

Notes:
-The Cyber Dragon changes to the team that owns the Control Point.
-DOM-RMC-Jupter uses a custom HUD.
-The HUD may be hard to read at first glance so I'll try explain here.

-The team icon indicates what team the Control Point is owned by.

-The top charge bar on the HUD indicates when the Dragon will change to it's new team.
-The Dragon dosen't instantly change to a new team when the Control Point changes ownership.
-The Dragons team is indicated by the colour of the HUD.
		-Grey indicates no team.
-Either the Dragon is changing teams or the Control Point has no owner.

-The bottom charge bar indicates when the Dragon will be able to fire on an enemy.
-The Dragons rate of fire changes depending on the number of players in game.
-Less players = longer charge time.
-More players = shorter charge time.
-This was implemented as a balance mechanic.

-This map isn't 100% complete but it's complete enough for release.
-No online play as I don't know replication.
-If I ever bother learning replication I'll make an updated map.

Big thanks to all that have helped out!
Notible thanks to EvilGrins, FeraliDragon and OjitroC!
Oh and my family for putting up with me when I'm in "The Coding Zone".

Mildly amused you say it's done up there but in the ReadMe it says the map isn't 100% done.

Next release is booked for around 2025, I can't in good conscience keep you waiting that long.

Very tiny and basic map. Too small for me. But the Cyberdragon is exceptional well designed. Good Job ExpEM. :tu:

Tiny was a specification of the RiDiCuLoUs Mapping Contest... though ironically the one that made the tiniest map is the one least likely to win.

Avoiding any panic, to be clear that up there is not the tiniest map.

No online play.
This is very annoying. The map is an excellent, distinctive one. I would like to fight friends on it. I tried, but Dragon moves jerks and his light FX stand in place.
If I ever bother learning replication I'll make an updated map.
I will really wait for it. :agree1:

I was originally worried that this map was too big for the competition...

I don't play online hence why I never bothered learning replication, in saying that I do enjoy an old school LAN match (I know I'm old) when I can convince a bunch of people to bring PCs over (and bourbon, lots of bourbon).
I think this map would be great fun with a few friends. :tu:

I made absolutely no effort in trying to make the Cyber Dragon online compatible, too much time was already spent getting it to work locally!

Learning replication is on my todo list, but in saying that, my projects have upgraded from weeks, to months and now years.
I will absolutely come back to this map in the future once I understand replication, right now I'm looking at 2025 as a fair estimate. (sorry not sorry).

Life is busy, full time work and a family, as mentioned else ware my third child is on the way and due in 4 days now, life is going to get busier... Not alot of learning / programming / mapping time for me now or in the foreseeable future.

Nah, the playable area is plenty small enough.

There's another map in it that takes place in a fishbowl, but the area outside the bowl is huge. Might actually be bigger than yours.
