Mapping with Google SketchUp

Post by Shade »

I have read some days ago, that i can make maps with Google SketchUp (which is easier to use then UED), and then convert it for Unreal Tournament.

But when i search in google for those maps, i only find this: http://sketchup.google.de/3dwarehouse/d ... 61f5c403f2

So...does anybody have experience with making UT maps with Google SketchUp? (If its really possible)

OMD, this programm seems to kick asses. :o
Anywise very easy to learn, only after few minutes I discover the first basics, like painting polygons and uhm UV Mapping or something like that O_o. But the first result wasn`t useful.

I've been mapping in ued for many years now. I've got used to it. And it's quite easy for me to make any kind of shape. So I doubt that an experienced mapper would find Google sketch up very useful.

Same opinion here, and don't forget that Google Sketch UP has a little version Free e another good one Paid.

I work in UEd for 2 years long already, and I am still learning to use it to the max, so I use UEd than another 3D editing program (I can do a huge ancient boat/ship in 2/3 steps  ).

Google sketch up is more for the all day user. Not for people who can efford to use 3ds max. besides making a map in google sketch up is not a good idea since it's not easy to stay in grid.

Yes, but the command "Actor Align" helps a little bit. Besides I wouldn`t make a complete map. ;)

Uhm...not that I think this tool is useful at all, but where can I donwload it? The linked site only seem to offer a "map" for Google Sketch UP.
P.S. One post left to see the download list. :P

Thx for the welcome and the link...
I had a real short run on Sketch UP (5min^^). Looks like a pretty cool tool. It's easy to "draw" surfaces and connect them. But I don't think that it will be as handy as UnrealED is. You won't need years to learn UnrealED...one can learn the basic functions in a few minutes. I'm sure one will learn Sketch UP as fast as UnrealED, but one still needs to import all the stuff. Looks like thats the point where you'll fail or have errors. I'd rather stay with UnrealED. In the end you will have more troubles importing and adjust your stuff then using the features UnrealED offers.
